Air con

Featured Replies

Afternoon all. I have a 2010 cr engined Octy vRS the air con appears to have given up the ghost. I have had it regassed pressure tested and also the pressure sensor changed but still to no avail. I have noticed that neither of the cooling fans in the engine bay are spinning at any time when the engine is running. Does anyone have any ideas of the problem before the compressor gets changed. Many thanks Greg

Have you had a fault code scan done on the car?

It may help pinpoint the problem.

Hi sorry yes the garage has fault coded the car and it's not showing up anything apparently

I'd say if there is no fault codes and the obvious other (cheaper culprits have been eliminated, pressure switch, temp sensors so on) then it is likely the compressor. They're a fairly common failure. In my golf it lasted about 5.5 years and 40k miles before failing.

Before condemning the whole compressor have a search for compressor valve.

Apparently it's a common fault and cheaper/quicker to fix.

if your car has got clutch by compressor, that may be an other problem.

I had leaks that were not reported by pressure test !!! all gas gone in about 14 days.

Soft scoop was correct. Centre bolt was sticking out tried to have it tightened and it just span. New compressor needed and now I'm cold again just in time for the weather to change. Thanks for all the help

Woahh fella...have a look at the numerous other threads on here regarding the same issue...type in "AIRCON NOT COLD" (tried copying the link but it won't let me do it)

The centre bolt can easily be tightened in situ

My ac was not cold and it turned out to be a  loose center bolt in compressor the garage said they see it alot. ac ice cold since.

We had a bulletin on the Delco compressors with the centre bolt coming out. They were replaced with Sanden units.

wonder how many "good" ones get changed  and still no coolth,  are they scrapped or rebuilt  ---  anyone know?

The wifes 2010 has  just come back from the stealers with a diagnosis faulty AC pump.

They want to sell us a new pump and condensor for a huge sum.

Being in Norway they want almost 2 grand for the job.

I pulled the cover off the inner wing and tried to tight the bolt, but it just turns, It doesnt tighten up, I assume its spinning inside with the shaft.

Can anyone tell me if there is a place to hold the shaft if it is spinning ?  or give me a part no for a replacement, better qualilty pump ?

Cheers

Glen

You need to do it with an air gun.

Something that almost every garage will have.

Search...."a/c not working still after being re gassed" thread...(again I can't cut and paste the link for some reason)

"Didsi" managed to nip it up ok using a flat blade screwdriver to hold the compressor clutch mechanism whilst spinning the bolt.

thanks I'll give another go, it was difficult to get the 1/4" socket on it, but its defo worth trying to save the price of a new compressor.
