Reverse Lights and Old Lights

Am I right in thinking these parts are for the most part the same on the car is it a generic connector or specific to the reverse switch

There are multiple types of plugs (even if the same number of terminals).

You can buy the repair wires from Skoda. They come with a length of wire on the correct terminal. You only need one wire (it has a terminal on each end) and you can re use the connector.

So if I bought this for example it would be just a case of taking the old connector off and soldering the wires to the new and reconnecting the plug? Just out of question how do these plugs come off?

I'd extend the wiring. The reason they snap is the loom is too short.

Do the terminals come out of the connector and as such could I just solder new wires to the old connectors and then joint the cables together and replace the terminals or should I just buy what that link above advertises

Yes the terminals come out. You slide out the purple locking tab and insert the appropriate terminal release tool. However the terminal will be crimped so not really reuseable.

If it was me I'd just buy a connector with the wires on and solder them to my existing wires. Seal the solder joints with self-amalgamating tape or suchlike.

http://www.lasertools.co.uk/product/3932 is the terminal extractor I have.

Can be improvised with two separate pieces of stiff steel wire, but easier with the right tool.

I find if you cut off the old wire including the part of the crimp that goes round the insulation, you can solder onto the top of where the old wire is crimped. Not as 'perfect' as a new connector or new crimp inserts, but I find it acceptable for DIY.

That's not a LED it's a filament bulb. Looks like part number 357919243AK25

You are correct. It doesn't have a socket and it looks just like an led. I think it is powered in 12V so it wouldn't be much of a deal fitting a standard led IMHO.
