Isle of Man TT whose been watching?

Featured Replies

Due to my new found hobby I have been keeping a watchful eye on the highlights on itv 4 at 9pm every evening. Who else has been watching?

Hutchy and Dunlop have been immense! Also some sad news in that two riders have died which also brings home the dangerous side to the sport along with a moto gp2 rider this weekend.

I'm watching, awesome lap record from Dunlop in the superbike race. I think Dunlop will beat it come the senior race. Looking forward to the supertwins and zero bike races, McGuinness for the win on the zero bike.

I have been recording the various programmes to watch the following day. It is bloody awesome the speed they go oh and scary.

Watch it every night. Edge of the seat stuff that never fails to amaze. I also like the input from Plater, Whitham and Parrish,

It's brilliant isn't it, been over twice myself for the TT, I'd recommend it to anyone! It's once you've seen it for yourself and ridden the course that you truly appreciate that those guys are absolutely nuts!!!

Watched each one and also the program on hutchy the other night....holy ****!

Likewise, and the one with Moly, and the Stavros+Whittam travelogue.

Better still if you live here on island. The atmosphere is superb.

Tony

lovin' it.

It's a great shame that Guy isn't there this year though.

Those sidecars are unbelievable, flat out for about 80% of a lap.

Balls of steel.

Not missed one yet. The high speed camera work is ridiculous.

The hutchy special last week was mad - any normal person would have lost a leg, no question.

These guys put their lives on the line every race, makes F1 and wrc look a bit tame.

You jammy so and so!!!!

Very envious of that!

Its an awesome place, the people are lovely, the roads are amazing and i think they must be a Plumbing/Heating Engineer down so i should go over and help... :D

i'm watching it as we speak. I have been doing nearly every night when i've had the chance.

It still amazes me every time i see it haha

Parrish can be a bit of a knob head sometimes. A few years ago while he was commenting on a TT race he saw Rossi watching the race discreetly near some bushes. He went up to him and said as his opening line "hello Valentino and that he (Parrish) used to race years ago so he knew why he was hiding in the bushes". Talk about lame statement. It was embarrassing as a viewer watching to listen too.

Super Stock bikes last night on ITV4.

I do not think many car drivers are aware how close "stock bikes" are close to race bikes in terms of time ie within 1% or so around the island.

Yes even the super stocks have race tyres but otherwise fairly stock.

Well done Hutchy after all the injuries and his bike controls are quite adapted to cope with the injuries.

Looking forward to Lightweight TT today but I do not know if the new SV engine has made it in to the bike yet so expect another Kawasaki dominance of course.

Electric bikes going as well so be interest to see how much their lap time allows if the weather continues to be good.

Extremely close shave in the lower ranks last night.

All captured by on bike footage.

How the hell the following rider managed to miss him, I've no idea.

I'm so glad the rider escaped OK

As I said, balls of steel!

Shame the Zero TT did not improve the lap time, McGuinnes's power cut over and then Bruce just cruised home, he was pretty beat up after his 120 mph off.

Well done University of Nottingham podium.

Need more entrance, maybe some of the new road going electric bikes as a superstoke zero race, I would do that though I would like to do the Lightweight as well on the new 75 hp SV to know the Kawasakis off their perch.

They arent 75bhp anymore though are they? I think theyre tuned to about 90-95bhp, on the very limit of what the engine can take (a standard crank in an SV is only good for 80bhp tops iirc) and temperamental as **** because of this.

That is about right, the ERs and SVs start as 72 hp (at the engine) for a standard machine and then are tuned to make another 20 to 25 horsepower at the engine.

The power transmission ie primary and secondary gear reductions, the gearbox and chain drive in all loose about 10 hp so you get around 63 hp at the back wheel on the standard bikes and then the add the extra horsepower in the usual way but it is the other parts where most the money is spend ie suspension, aero, brakes.

With these tweaks the bikes are doing 115-120 average speed laps on these IoM.  I would guess they must be doing over 150 mph on Sulby straight for instance to get those lap times but cannot locate specific data.

New SV engine is around 75/76 hp and maybe the basis for mounting more of a competition for the ERs.

SV riders complained they did not to actually stop for fuel when the race was 3 laps but now it is 4 laps every one needs to stop at least once. Hope there is an S version of it soon.  Mine cost me £4.5K new, not bad for a vehicle that doe sub 4 second 0-60 I reckon.

Yeah thats the one. Not bad when you think getting over 120 on an SV is hard work anyway. So averaging 120 is brill.

I ran a 2001 SV650s from 5k miles till about 20k (when i thought it was a good time to shift it on) and it was great. Not fast enough for any quick overtakes above 60-70mph but quick enough to have fun on. Suspension very basic though.

Keep think of getting a flip screen for mine, also got a Delkevic can to fit as the original must weigh about a stone I reckon.   Actual prefer running the SV rather than Fazer 600 I had before even though the Fazer had a third more power ie standing quarter in 11 seconds, but it felt top heavy and the detuned R6 engine did not suit it I thought.   Good to see the R6s doing so well in the TT.

BMW SS1000RR seems to be the weapon of  choice this year until the new Fireblade and Gixer come out for next year.  I was suprised to hear how bad the MT07 suspension was regards in a recent test with the ER6 and SV.  Might stick to SVs though I did like the MT09 on test ride.  Panigali is the weapon of choice I think for us twin cylinder lovers, lean, mean super-bike machine.  Middleweight (TT calls them lightweights to link with the old 250/350s I suppose) are so cheap to run compared to the 1000s I use to run and less likely I am going to get carried away and go to the clink.

Have you already bought the Delkavic or are you thinking of doing?

Ive had Delkavics on 2 bikes (got them on the Tuono now) n i do have views on them. But i dont wanna say too much if you've just bought them! :D.

Beowulf are my choice tbh.

Bought but not fitted yet, did you have to cut the exhaust pipes in half?   Bloody tough cutting through the chromed pipes.

As long as it sounds quote nice and gives about the same HP I will be happy.

Great TT week except the Zeros which were dissapointing.

Dunlop, Hutchy, Linton and McGuinness were all brilliant and looking forward to Japanese resurgent machines next year, must try and go.

Noo i haven't cut them in half haha.

They sound 'okay'. They dont give a deep sound like others (even on a Tuono they arent anywhere near as deep as others) and are easily scratched when touched with a microfibre cloth even. So just be careful with them perhaps :)

They are good for the price though. They really aren't much money are they. Half the price of even the Beowulfs. So i guess what im trying to say, is you get what you pay for, as always.

Good watch on ITV 4.

Love Hutchy's win yesterday despite on BMW rather than the Yams he use to win on.

Bad luck Guy. Stunning on board of his off.

Great result for R6 in super sports.

Get well Davey Lambert.
