Rear Brake Splash Guards - Needed?

Featured Replies

So, as I'm now looking at replacing the whole rear axle on my VRS due to the old resembling a rusted bed frame, I've been looking at all of the ancillaries & extras that I'll need that won't just swap over (mostly due to them being rusted/stuck/damaged etc).

So, I've got new brakelines and short pipes, ABS sensors, little plastic clips to hold the brakelines etc.. the I realised that I would finally get the chance to swap out my old rear backing plates (one of which I tore off due to it rotting a while back).. only I've noticed that they're an obscene £27 each.

I guess the question is whether it's worth dropping sixty quid on them?
Do they do anything actually useful? I know Skoda wouldn't fit them if they really weren't any use, but I don't seem to have any issues whatsoever running without one for three years. :)

I managed to pick up a second hand rear axle beam complete with backplates, clips, brake pipes, abs sensors, bearings and bushes attached to it. I personally would fit them as they stop a lot of the road dirt getting into the callipers and also reduces the amount of brake dust getting over the rest of the axle.

Yeah, I picked up a used axle as well, but long story short, it was not what was advertised on eBay.

I've butchered the bits off it that I could (the little clips, the 'U' brackets that actually mount the axle to the car chassis etc).. so I suppose after spending some decent wedge getting everything back to mint, I may as well spend the extra. Ah well..haha

If it wasnt as described you can ask for a full or partial refund that would offset the costs a bit for you?

That's exactly what I did.. went up to collect it (obviously, as they weigh a sodding tonne!) and noticed it was nowhere near as good nick as the one on the photos.

"Oh yeah, that was another one I was breaking, just used the same photo as they're all the same".. It was only £20 originally, so called it a tenner just to get the brackets, clips and bolts. :)
