.. me! Ordered a skip last week, went away for the weekend & completely forgot the skip was in the driveway, reversed back waiting for the sensors to beep & WHAM! Reversed straight in to the lip of the skip, nobody else to blame but me! New boot, badges, tail lights & a paint job required - €2,750 worth of damage - the most expensive skip hire in history!!!! Still annoyed with myself but nobody got hurt & it's only my car involved but still......

Feel for you, I did it once when I reversed into a lorry in our yard. Tail lift section went straight into the back screen - this was Christmas Eve!

Ouch! I reversed off my drive into our wheelie bin once (helpfully left there by the bin men) which was annoying. Stupid thing was my reverse sensors even beeped but because of the slope of the drive they always did when coming off so I didn't twig and as I hadn't seen any people thought I was fine. Luckily just the n/s light cluster needed replacing which I sourced from eBay and was able to replace myself but I was still really miffed at my own stupidity so I can imagine how you're feeling...

I just admire your courage in telling us all about it

Hope you get it fixed quickly.

Ouch

You really gave it a good knock.

Feel for you, hope that it's soon just a distant annoying memory

2750.....ouch that seems a little pricey though

Did you hit it hard, seems to have done a lot of damage. Whilst the structure of the car is solid I remember somebody commented how weak the panels are, I know washing the car I've heard a few pops on the bonnet!

Is you no claim bonus protected? If it is it's just a minor inconvenience. I had a policy with fbd and a roof slate fell of the house and did the bonnet and wing in on my last superb, I had my ncb protected but they failed to honor it as would you believe you had to have the policy for 3 year until then it was only step back despite on the policy saying full ncb protection! I even rang the Insurance ombudsman about it.

I should say in the small print it did state the policy had to be active for 3 years.

If that had happened in the early days of Skoda the headlines would have been

" Skip Reversed into Skip "   :giggle:

It puts the stone chip on my front bumper into perspective  :notme:

Just step back protection not great but at least it's something. I'm dreading my policy next year though as Insurance has gone through the roof - €640 this year with FNCB & no penalty points,up from €400 last year & that was after a lot of searching & haggling

Boot took all the impact, opens & closes fine & all lights & camera are working so just cosmetic thankfully

Really sorry to hear that .  Its such a horrible sinking feeling when something like that happens.  Hope you can get it sorted easy enough and hope your insurance isn't affected too much.  At least it was a skip and not a person, not much consolation I know but....

Sorry to hear.. i feel for you!  When I had my very first brand new car I can remember I reversed into my brother's car when it was just 3 months old and I felt terrible.  Also because my brother was merciless about it....  At least the skip can't tease you!  I hope its all fixed up in no time though.  On the bright side, at least when the car is so new its super easy for them to match the paint up... it is a lot harder as it gets older and the paint changes lightly.

I know insurance has gone mad in Ireland, my policy went up 200 this year on the car and 250 on the motorbike bike I expect a similar increase in the house insurance when it's due. Their a few places now offering 2 year policies now so at least you would know you be OK for 2 years. I may add zero penalty points and no claims.

That's true regarding the paint match, they are gonna spray the quarter panels with a fading effect to match the boot to the bodywork so it will be unnoticeable. The quote is nearly €3,000 now as they never included the black spoiler fins at the top corners of the Combination windscreen, They are a €106 each!!!!!!!! For those plastic yokes!

If it makes you feel any better, two weeks ago while I was reversing into our drive a dog walked up the street. Rather than concentrating on what I was doing, I was looking at him thinking 'I've never seen him before' and I took the offside wing mirror off on the gatepost.
