NSF Repeater Condensation

Featured Replies

I took my Citigo in to my local main dealer for an MOT and Service a few weeks ago, and they had to do some work on the NSF repeater as is was apparently inoperative.

I have just noticed that it is now full of condensation and there is some visible sealant under the indicator (photo attached - you may need to zoom in for the sealant). I suspect this is a direct result of the work undertaken, but wanted to get your second opinion first? If it is, should I expect the dealer to correct this FOC? I think I know the answer, but am already frustrated with this dealer a bit for some of the customer service on day of taking my car in I wanted to make sure my judgement isn't clouded.

Thanks for any advice.

Not right, sounds like they've buggered up somehow, pop the indicator out and take a look, there's instructions in the manual, it's pretty easy to do, check that A. the bulb is actually attached to the repeater correctly (just pulls out IIRC, I myself have made the error of not having the indicator not secured in place and having it actual fall behind the panel) and B. they haven't dropped it, cracked it, used some sealant to seal it (poorly by the looks of it) and put it in hoping no one would see.

If it's the case of option B. take it back, you're entitled to a new one and if they complain and moan and try and blame you threaten with going to Ombudsman and making a complaint.

Also threaten to talk to Skoda UK with a formal complaint.

I would be very unhappy if my wife's Citigo came back from the main dealer in that state.

And I have a repeater spare if one is required and you don't want the hassle, wouldn't cost anything as it's just collecting dust, I'd just need to find it

Thank you both for the advice, and big thank you for the offer of the spare repeater Hyphons!

I got in touch with the dealers today - sent them a photo by email first thing in the morning, they called me back simply to ask "do you want a courtesy car when you bring it in?" They don't have a courtesy car available until 5th July so will be a little wait.

A courtesy car for what? :D All they need to do is bring the car to the garage, pop the repeater off, have a look and replace if they have indeed screwed it up. Something ain't right there

Who knows...I'm taking it though based on past exp!

They wanted my car in for an extra day just to do the electrical work on the repeater first time around. They don't seem too organised - on second day they had my car I phoned at midday to find out whether it would be finished that day so I could give my boss the nod that I'd need to leave early to pick it up. Their response was "I would hope so..."

That's shocking, I would take it elsewhere, sounds to me like another Westover dealership, if they can't check why the lens has condensation in it in 15 minutes then that tells me there's something seriously wrong with their mechanics

I will be next year, only reason going back now is I want them to put this right.

I bought the car second-hand from a dealer my Dad's used for years to buy Skodas, unfortunately he lost his official Skoda dealer status (I assume its because of the showroom rebrand requirements Skoda imposed?) and I wanted to go to an official dealer for first service...turned out car had a catch-'em-at-service recall for ASG.

What a mistake to make though. As things stand will be going back to guy I bought car from for next service.

Today was the day to take the car back in for the repeater work. Got a phone call yesterday from them to confirm all was still OK. Today I get there...they say they don't have the parts, could I come back Friday.

Email duly lodged with the groups director and Skoda UK.

Shody dealership IMO, if you're at the Briskoda national at the end of the month I'll see if I can find a spare one for you

Absolutely disgraceful behaviour! They need some strong words and to be taught a lesson.

Just a quick update - got responses from both the dealer and Skoda UK.

The director of the chain emailed me first to offer his apologises and tell me the wheels were in motion, then got a call from the chains operations manager to let me know he was looking into it and gave me a deadline by which I would get a response. General manager at the dealer phoned shortly after to issue an apology, tell me that staff were being dealt with and offered to do the work FOC when I brought the car back in on Friday (a genuine gesture, but the work was already being done FOC as it was to correct previous work).

Skoda UK response has been brilliant - someone working on the CEO's team phoned to get full details of what has happened, how the dealer has responded, what the dealer offered to do to put things right, and find out from me what they needed to do to put things right. I told them I was happy with the apology, the only problem was it was putting me out having to keep taking time off work. They then got in touch with the dealer on my behalf and organised for my car to be picked up by them this evening (very last minute and I am out of their usual range for that), ensure work will be done first thing tomorrow morning and then the car returned. They are going to phone me again tomorrow to check that all has gone smoothly.

Sounds good. What's happened?

Well the car was collected as arranged, and returned early this afternoon. I was unable to look it over on return as I was at work.

Checking it over when I got back from work, *sigh* I don't know, there is a small patch of condensation in the indicator. This could be normal? I don't know. There is still a sealant mark on the bottom, and now an additional one on the top. Will get a photo again.

The lady from Skoda UK left me a voicemail message (again they have been top draw - I gave them a 90-min window in which they could contact me during the day - she missed it by a couple of minutes and was very apologetic as she was held up by another customer!). Her missing the window actually work better for me - she is going to ring me back on Monday, which gives me the weekend to see how the condensation develops and have a better look over the car.

why mess about with sealant? those wing indicators cost less than a few rags even if they don't put it through warrant it is probably cheaper in labour cost savings to just swap it out than mess about taking it out and sealing it?

Today I've noticed mine has condensation inside it. It surely shouldn't be normal for this much?!

Had a similar problem with my previous Fabia.  Side indicator was replaced under warranty without any argument.

Looks more like an aquarium!,time for a warranty claim I think.
