Featured Replies

Hi Guy's

Has anyone please got a picture / photograph of a 1.2 TSI with DSG  - Engine bay -  MY2015/16 (FL) preferably an SE model but would be most grateful for anything.

Many thanks in anticipation..................Tony

Mine is a MY16 1.2 TSI 110 but no DSG... I take it that's no good?

Hi Paul, I would love to see it if you can please. It will probably show most of what I want to see - Many thanks .................Tony

Here you go:

Hi Paul, Thanks for that! Very kind of you. It looks very different than I had thought, and then I realised from your signature that it's not a Yeti 1.2 TSI! But that of a Spaceback.

Unfortunately I did not post that in my request - My fault. It did not occur to me to do so as I was posting in the Yeti section and that is the picture I am seeking. I suspect there are some slight differences. Many thanks again for the time & effort. Much appreciated..............Tony

PS: Perhaps an obliging Moderator would amend the title for me to include the name Yeti? - Many thanks.....T

No, it's definitely a Yeti :) I traded the Spaceback in last week! Must change my signature. Don't forget the MY16 has the Euro 6 engine which is totally different to the Euro 5.

Wow!!!! That is different than my current MY2011 one.

If that is your car in your signature. We have similar tastes - We last week ordered a new (MY2017)1.2 SE Outdoor DSG in moon white with a few extras. Delivery possibly around the beginning of September.

Lots of changes on your engine. Air filter moved - Oil filter moved  (can't see where that's gone!) also cannot see the Turbo or the Spark Plugs and so much more! Am I right in thinking that the Euro 6 is Cam Belt and not Chain? Any other changes here in the engine bay or elsewhere that you have spotted that are different to the pre FL or slightly later models?

Thanks so much for posting the picture! - I cannot believe that when we ordered the new one that I never opened the bonnet!!!!!! It must be my age!  :x Ah well...........Roll on September - Tony

(So little time - so many questions - It's definitely my age   :wall: )

It's now a EA211 (was EA111) engine - totally different :-

Exhaust at the bulkhead side of the engine

Air intake - front of engine

Cam belt - not chain

16v

Totally different block

oil filter at the bottom of the engine

Thus far - very good engine

Hi John Thanks for the reply and the information!

16v - was that a mistake? ( I really must call in and have a good [better!] look round the new model )

Actually you might be right it's possibly an 8v - I initially thought all EA211 engines were 16v

I think it's 8v. As bigjohn says, the engine is the other way around, with the turbo and exhaust manifold at the back. The manifold is also integrated with the cylinder head so the engine warms up very quickly. I've only done c. 120 miles so far but I am really pleased with it. It's very smooth and refined but with a pleasing growl when pushed. If you let the revs drop too much there is a bit of turbo lag, but from 1600 rpm upwards there's plenty of useable torque.

16v 8v - Thinks: (Hmmm. not the 1st of April is it?) Nah - It's good ol Yorkshire humour  ...............an they can't half chuck a ball about - and after today. Boy don't we know it!

I thought the E211 was 16V.

As well as being the other way around and cam belt driven it's also smaller, lighter and has dual cooling circuits. The Cylinder head and cabin heater is separate to main engine cooling giving faster cabin heat.

1.2 TSI (EA211)[edit]

These newly developed generation of modern petrol engines are manufactured at the Škoda Auto plant in Mladá Boleslav.

identification EA211 engine family. Turbocharged and direct-injection TSI engines with a four-cylinder, four-valve layout and belt driven camshafts.

The EA211 engines are a completely new four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI engines. Compared to its predecessor, the EA211 series is significantly more compact, with installation length 50 mm shorter, thus offering more interior space. The installation position of the engines has also been optimised. Just as in the diesels, the petrol engines are now mounted with the exhaust side facing backwards and tilted at an angle of 12 degrees. The weight of these petrol engines made of die-cast aluminium is only 97 kg for the 1.2 TSI and 106 kg for the 1.4 TSI. The crankshaft alone became lighter by 20 per cent; the connecting rods lost 30 per cent of their weight. In addition the connecting rod bearing journals are now hollow-drilled and pistons now come with flat bottoms, all of them optimized for lower weight. Regarding thermal management, the EA211 petrol engine is equipped with a modern dual-circuit cooling system. That means that a high temperature circuit with a mechanically driven cooling pump cools the basic engine, while a low temperature circuit flows through the intercooler and the turbo-charger casing. The cylinder-head circuit heats the cabin's interior. The exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head, enabling the engine to warm up more quickly, in turn making heat available quickly for the passenger cabin. At high loads, the exhaust is cooled by the coolant, lowering fuel consumption

It is a twin cam 16v

Off the Skoda web site :- http://www.skoda.co.uk/models/new-yeti/performance - Looks like it is a 16v as it has a Double Overhead Cam

Also look closely at the photo, plugs in the middle between cams

16v (VALVE!!!)--------------I thought you meant 16v (Volt!)

It's definitely my age    :wall:  - I'm off to Bob's Corner! Anyone join me? It's my round, and a sincere thanks for all the info & pictures guys................Tony

I'm joining you as I was thinking the same!

Must have a second cup of tea!

I guess it's because valves aren't talked about as much as when 16 valve engines were new and generally only used in more sporty types cars.

Yes, you don't see many cars proudly sporting a 16v badge on the boot these days!

Yes, you don't see many cars proudly sporting a 16v badge on the boot these days!

Most engines are at least 4 valves per cylinder now but the original Yeti 1.2 tsi was 2 valves per cylinder (hence 8 valve/ volt  :notme: ) which is why there was some debate between 8 valve/ and 16 valve with the later version

The 1.2 EA111 was 8v in the Yeit  but the 1.4 EA111 was 16v  installed elsewhere (including my Superb)

The 1.2 and 1.4 EA211 all seem to be 16v

Will be interesting to see what economy the latest 1.2 Yeti gets -  eventually will be downsizing from the Skoda Superb and am trying to avoid buying a diesel
