DSG hill-hold?

Featured Replies

Hello all. 'First post.

I've paid a deposit on a 3 year old Mk2 DSG 170 Elegance estate to replace my venerable Audi A6 automatic; I was looking forward to the coming of the Mk3 but it simply isn't as nice & spacious as the older model. Anyway, when test driving the Superb I was surprised to roll backwards when stationary on an incline upon taking my foot off the brake pedal. An automatic wouldn't do this of course, but it this normal for the dual-clutch box?

Cheers

HHC can be enabled or disabled by changing the coding of the ABS unit, assuming the ABS unit supports this function. A '13 car probably supports it, but it would be a good idea to confirm this before you buy if it's a feature you really want.

If you use the handbrake you can preload the clutch as you would in a manual. This will stop the rolling back.

It was enabled on my 10 plate 1.8 TSI DSG elegance estate. I have since enabled XDS diff using vcds :D

Where in the country are you as a local member with vcds may be able to help you code it.

HHC was standard only on the 1.8TSI DSG model I believe but as eluded to above - can be enabled depending on your ABS module being compatible. I too have enabled XDS as my cars module is capable of it.

Thanks for the replies. I won't mind using the handbreak if HHC can't be enabled. I was simply surprised that either the box wouldn't hold the car or else that if it didn't that HHC wasn't the Skoda-provided alternative. At least the consensus is that the gearbox is working as intended. That said, I'm grateful for any Superb advice & I'm in Glasgow for what its worth.

This seems to be another option that is not standard in the UK but possibly is in other markets. All 3 Superbs I have driven here in NZ have had it. Note that even with HHC you might still need to use the handbrake on very steep hills if parallel parking.

One of the first and best things I enabled with VCDS completely transforms the way the car drives and what should off in my opinion be enabled from factory  .

The DSG is basically a robotised manual, so there's a clutch rather than a torque converter. The computer engages the clutch as the car pulls off but I don't think it'll slip it for a long time to hold the car on a hill. HHC uses the ABS unit to apply the rear brakes (basically an automatic handbrake).
