Octavia pinking

Featured Replies

Hi ive just purchased a 2006 octsvia 1.6 fsi with only 20,000 on clock fsh the car drives like new however ive noticed its pinking under load between 2/3000 rpm and doesn't happen until the engine is fully warmed up when its cold it doesn't pink at all just wandered if anyone could help with this issue many thanks

Pinking when the engine is hot can be a sign off a coked-up motor.  Carbon build up in the cylinder head gets hot enough to act like a  spark plug, causing premature detonation.

This seems unlikely at just 20,000 miles.  But ten years old and just 2,000 miles per year could mean a lot of very short cold journeys that will have much the same effect in gumming the motor up as would a much higher mileage.   Either that, or it's been 'clocked' somehow and really is a high-miler.

If you're running on 95 RON fuel, try a switch to 98 RON and see if that makes a difference.

Also check that you've got the correct spark plugs.  The length of the 'nose' and the rated temperature ('hot' or 'cold' plugs) can make a difference.

I had this on a ford that had a non genuine coil pack fitted after the original one failed, replaced it with a genuine one and the pinking went away.
