Thought I'd share my other non Skoda passion... my rebuilt Defender TD5....and some info on my Expedition Trailer.  The Yeti is the only other non Land Rover vehicle I'd consider.  Really pleased with my modded Yeti   Plus the Greenline 'Offsets' the mucky beast

 

Take one looking sorry for itself (buy mechanically sound) Defender TD5... and get to work with...

 

- T-Reg bodywork (Not too pretty in places)

- Solid 2003 engine from a 110 Defender 53,000 on the clock.

- Galvanised replacement chassis

- JW Speaker LED lights package.
- IRB Developments PWR Intercooler & Silicon hoses
- IRB Stage 2 remap
- Turbo Boost box to avoid the ECU cutting engine power.
- Egr removal

- Decat exhaust system

The 5 pot sounds incredible and is by far one of my favourite Land Rovers produced. The last of the 100% in-house designed Defenders, from the engine back.

Thanks man Certainly is a transformation from the sad 90 I saw in the corner.  

Love it too, I do miss the Defender after leaving JLR, they had some interesting challenges at times.

And I loved the CAD work as most of it was missing so you had to get inventive (like adding RR wheels lol)

I added some Bilstein B6 dampers all round including the steering.  Bought some Range Rover Sport alloys and was ready for lowering 1.5" for slightly better fast road handling. Wouldn't look non standard on the ride height but makes a big difference to stability... changed my mind last minute and lost a shed load of brass flogging the wheels on!

Mines had the total works apart from a VNT turbo upgrade.   120 BHP to 195BHP    300nm stock to 420NM.   There's not much else I can do apart form modify the exhaust manifold and put a bigger turbo on it.  TBH I'm happy the way it is.   Have my Yeti mods to sort too.  Had the stage 1 now need to get the Darkside Developments S3 intercooler on there.

Got to love a D1.  Especially the 300tdi... well, everything apart from the rear tub rust! Looked at a 300tdi Japanese Camel trophy D1. Support vehicle.  Left it.  Had a ton of MOT and service history torn out of the book and a conversion from km to m speedo.... mmmmmm

Sounds a but iffy that.

This needs work but the rear tub isn't bad, good thing is replacement panels are cheap for them.

Had to do a but of patching up but overall its OK.

Its had the pump turned up, I've fitted a boost pin and decat and for a 2t+ thing it doesn't hang about lol

It certainly does! Although I don't 'drive it like I stole' it as much these days.  It is a rush when you put your foot down in it.  That 5 pot has such a nice sound.  Revs better than any of the new tdci ford stuff too. 

 

When you start servicing all aspects of your motor yourself you get an appreciation for how fragile they can be.... and how much of a pain in the arse it is to sort them out!   

Are you on lr4x4 forum? If not, then find it and register - very helpful bunch that are more concerned with technical answers than mud slinging at each other (they can be light hearted too)
