Filled up & now stuttering

Featured Replies

We filled up our 105 TSi with Morrisons standard unleaded and noticed within a few miles it would stutter under acceleration. We last filled up with Shell unleaded and noticed no issues. Is it poor quality fuel causing the issue. Should we top up with better quality fuel ASAP ?

Thanks all

It could be dodgy fuel or a coincidence. How much fuel was in the tank and how much did you put in?

Fuel light was on and told us the range was 20mls before we filled up. We put in around 40 litres

I use Tesco Momentum in my 105 Monte it loves it, goes a lot better, got low 50 m.p.g on a long run last week.

Anybody using sainsbury's normal unleaded. I hear its BP ?

If you are pulling into Sainsbury to fuel up you might as well buy the Super Unleaded 97 ron Min.

It will be less than £2 a tank extra and likely to have your 1.2 tsi running more efficiently.

As to which Depot Fuel comes from and Produced by who and when and with what additives,

there is a muchness with 95 ron petrol in the UK.

BP are big upping their UK fuels right now, but the only way you know is if you ask the tanker driver where he / she collected the fuel.

Cheers all

What shall I do with the fuel in the tank. Drive carefully ?

That is all you can do, and then keep filling up at filling stations as the fuel drops.

Do not 'Vent' the tank which might have happened,

do not brim it after you have enough fuel in.

Is the cars servicing up to date, clean air filter, spark plugs checked or changed if at that mileage,

a Skoda Software update done at the last service?

?

How many miles has your car done, and what servicing has it had.?

A Fuel Filter Change might be a good idea, the Dealership might say 'Fitted for life' but then they say lots.

How much was left from the previous fill ask it takes about 2ltrs of fuel to fill pipes filters and pumps before getting to engine, but doesn't rule out a fuel issue could have been dirt particles etc blocking filter and reduced fueling under acceleration

Thanks all car has been in for a service this morning and hooked up to diagnostics. Mechanic says its showing mivac ?? and cleared it but not even sure if I have the spelling right. He thinks it could be due to poor fuel. Car still stuttering will fill with as much super as I can today and see what happens.

Some Adult will be along that knows what he / she was talking about.

At least they never said 'they all do that'.

I too have heard it's rebranded BP.  There Super unleaded is only a couple of pence more than standard so it's a no brainer really.

Think its a bit more serious than fuel quality guys. Wife was out in it earlier today and it began running rough then the dash lit up like a christmas tree. She managed to coax it to the nearest Skoda dealer where he now sits awaiting his fate.

I saw this earlier but I had no time to reply. After your last post this may well be totally irrelevant.

A while ago Morrisons did have a reputation for poor fuel but also two thoughts :-

First with your tank low something foreign that was floating could have been sucked in.

Second if Morrisons tank was low something foreign could have been pumped into your tank.

Once investigated should the issue be fuel related don't think twice about a claim to Morrisons, perhaps via solicitor if you have legal services added to your car or even house insurance. Try and find out if anyone else has had issues after filling up at the same place around the time you did.

Ok Skoda have called and they reckon spark plug is the problem so have replaced it and the car seems improved but they want to test run it again this afternoon to be sure. Of course the car needs a list of other things like a split wiper and dirty brake fluid.

Annoying as it is they have a duty of care obligation to carry out a health check and report anything.

Did you buy this car very recently and from who.

What mileage and age and what Service History if any, which service was done last and by who?

Any warranty from where you bought it?

Or maintenance invoice or records of recent servicing?

Car bought just over a week ago but we got a discount based on the possibility of a cam chain issue although the cam chain seems very quiet.

Its done 37k and is a Jun 2013 car just out of Skoda warranty

The car has had 4 or 5 services including the oil flush & service we have just had done at our local independant. The last two or three appear to have been done by an indy only the first two by Skoda

Standard warranty from the dealer which is worth nothing in my experience. Car has stamped service book

You can return the car in 30 days.  New law, sale of goods,

get shot of it, even bought as seen from a dealer, they are in business.   So Warranty for 30 days or 90 days not important,

Sale of Goods.

Yes but I believe that you have to prove that the fault existed prior to purchase and it didnt as we really gave it a good long test drive before purchased and it was perfect. The car has now had a second roadtest and the Skoda technician has described it as fit & well. At the end of the day we have fallen for the car its perfect for us and touch wood it was a minor problem.

Was that it then spark plugs needing replaced?

How many miles has the car done and did the technician show you the plugs removed?

so if it was in for service the day before why did they not pick u the wiper and brake fluid?

was the service done at the indy garage you got it from and the one that picked up the other items a dealer? if so says a lot about the indy to miss the wiper assuming the wiper was split, the brake fluid a lot of dealers try that one on, same as aircon service

If the car is just out of the Skoda Warranty and 3 years old then it was due a brake fluid change, then the service schedule is 2 yearly from then.

Yes it was but will no more on collection tomorrow hopefully.

I now use Sainsbury's 97 (when available) in our 1.2 and 1.8 TSI and the difference is noticeable. More pull through the rev range and better range.

The wife doesn't and it annoys me! It's worth the few extra pence.

They don't sell it on the isle of Wight. I did get some funny looks when I asked for it!
