Buying an Octavia: Mileage?

Featured Replies

Soon to purchase an Octavia III VRS Estate, the 2 litre diesel model, likely to be DSG.

With a full service history, how much would you be concerned regarding mileage?

I have the option of a lesser ran 49K car or a couple hitting the 77K mark with more spec, opinions?

Thanks guys :)

With the diesel engine mileage isn't really an issue provided it's been looked after. Seen loads of the 2 litre diesels with well over 200k miles and still going strong.

Go for the lower mileage option

you want the manual too - as DSG is not only a bit stupid but also pretty bad on fuel.

The manual on the other hand works like a dream and fits in with the more sporty feel of the VRS

I had a superb (mkII after facelift) with 2.0 diesel, 170hp + DSG6 combo. I had it rather short time, but never experienced issues with economy nor performance.

Now I would not go for diesel anymore, but that's another story ;)

These days engine mileage is not so important if well maintained.

Overall the Octy3 seems very reliable as there aren't many people who have reported costly issues or regularly problems.

Its seems quite a lot of people have lease PCP/PCH agreements so exchange the car afer a couple of years (and problably not so high mileage) but after 3 years since launch I would expect that we would have heard about longer term problems if there were some regular ones.

For all Octy's there are some things to be aware of:

   - Booming in the cabin - read the thread "Booming in the Cabin". Drive the one you are buying before signing to make sure you are happy with it.

   - Water pump failure is a common fault & there is a new part to replace it.

   - Boost pressure sensor was a common fault on MY14 2L diesels but the issue seems to been rectified by new parts/wiring design.

In the end a choice of used car comes down to many factors, price, age, previous owners, service history etc

Personally I wouldnt be overly worried about 75k km if the car has good options, is well looked after & comes at a competative price compared with 50k km.

My vRS has 65k km over 2 years and the car still feels like new.

We've got a lot of toledos over 200k on the 1.6 tdi engine. Serviced every 10k they still run extremely well and except the common egr valve and secondary water pumps they've been good.
