DIY camber adjustable ball joints

By the sound of it you guys might have a similar strut tower arrangement to the 9N3 polo with the dome enclosing the strut top assembly and an access cap. I think thats why the k-mac became popular because once fitted (and it fits underneath like the standard one does) you only have to slacken the 3 actual strut top nuts. This releases compression plates and then the whole thing moves around infinitely. It had pillow ball and needle roller bearings and looking from the top you wouldn't even know its there. It can be supplied with standard or coilover spring top hats and has the same height as the standard top/bearing that it replaces so that ride height is unchanged. When fitted you wouldn't even know its there unless you looked from underneath - easy to hide from scrutineers!     It might be worth looking into for you guys if your tower is the same as ours.

ignore the zaney website design and the rubbish blurbs about going back and forth between track and street settings - don't know why we get treated like fools - but its a direct fit to my car, no mods. Apparently there was some confusion after a UK group buy on fit up - guys were mixing up the orientation of the plates - but that was all cleared up  and lots of 9N3 gti guys run them without probs. From what I've seen on my forum you can get up to 3 degrees neg and some extra castor too with these. The are more time consuming to set up. I had an earlier incarnation of them on an RS2000 mk2 escort about 15 years ago and they take more time becuase camber and castor are adjusted infinitely and together, not independent of one another. I was literally about to buy them but then was gifted a pair of control arms and decided to do the ball joints instead so that the left over cash could go into the next tune. Just couldn't justify the dollars.

Sorry bloke, I'm a proper engineer and I'm not buying it.

Haha. Love it!

nor explaining it.    Take a quick google look at the audi TT control arms that the ball joints came off. So not only is the ball joint slotted but so are  the control arms bolt holes. That's two bolt hole elongations atop of one another and not a dimple in sight. Nothing there to stop all 3 bolts sheering when it all suddenly moves. Its a wonder it can even get down the road! Same too with the fab mk 2 control arm - a ball joint just plonked on top of the control arm held on only with non dimple assisted bolts.

There's always someone on a forum who uses a qualifications pis&ing contest to have a go at people who are trying something different. Seems a bit of thought sharing between people with similar cars isn't all round fostered here and TBH I couldn't care less, but I'd hazard a guess that there are plenty who'll be interested in the mod and its for those people that I put up the link.

I couldn't tell whether del-gti's post was sarcasm TBH.

No need to get out of your pram about it, I don't agree with your mod on safety grounds, you'd better get used to people disagreeing with you, you'll experience it your whole life however long that may be.

This is a forum, not facebook, people have opposing views here, we're not all hanging out of the back of each other and giving reacharounds. Be my guest and mod your car however you like but I'm not going to endorse something I don't think is safe.

OK.

ha ha  I'm coping. I've got shoulders of my own and I've already done the mod. But will anyone who's interested in the mod put their head above the parapet here - doubtful, and that's a shame.
