Extreme Alloy Wheel Repair

Featured Replies

As per title really, the missus thought she'd play chicken with a kerb and ballsed up 2 alloys.

has anyone else come across repairing these diamond cut wheels made of butter? Any recommendations of alloy wheel refurbishments in the northwest?

I'm aware they'll be a full refurb job.

PLEASE HELP

I've got a similar self inflicted problem myself, courtesy of the supposedly up-to-date but woefully incorrect SatNav trying to take me down a one-way road the wrong way in the middle of Manchester the other week.

I've not booked in to get mine fixed yet, as we've been away on holiday, but you might want to give these guys a try: http://www.wheelfix.net/wheel%20repair%20questions.html

Please let me know how you get on if you get to use them before I do.  I'll do likewise if I get to see them in the next couple of weeks.  Thanks!

The only way to get a satisfactory repair that won't look **** is to have them refurbished properly and re cut.

I've seen some shocking dealer/smart bodges that look **** right from the off and get ****ter after a few washes.

The only trouble with getting wheels recut is depending on the design it can look pretty obvious. Both Gemini and extremes both have thin bands of machined finish which will widen when the damage is removed. Obviously the deeper the damage the more they would have to take off.

Thankfully for you both wheels are on the same side so at least each side of the car should match

They look like shallow gouges to me - I had similar and I was very pleased with the results from a mobile wheel service. Not noticeable when off and close up' and invisible when back on the car. Give it a try - if you get a decent repairer they will pipe up if the finish will be no good.

Mine was worse than this. Bump n scuff in carlisle fixed it for £80. Next day turnaround. They do it on a lathe so you get the proper diamond cut finish then they relacquer the whole wheel.

There is a company on Newton Road in Lowton called wheelsmart. I have never used them only noticed as I've drove past, invariably I will be looking into getting mine done, after better half uses the alloys to ensure she's parked next to the curb.

Thanks for the replies guys, had a few quotes ranging from £85 to £130 per wheel, to fully strip the wheels and CNC the faces, tempted to refurbish the 2 damaged wheels and powder coat all 4 to black ala the vRS 230.

We use 'the wheel specialists' in manchester. £95+Vat for a wheel. Not he cheapest but we've had loads of diamond cut done for our customers from M3 to Bentley and they are worth every penny.

They have just upgraded their cnc lathe to the very latest high speed machine that cuts beautifully. Highly recommended as they really are 'as new'

The advantage to doing this that Halfords' bog standard gloss black touch up pen will match the painted bits of your alloys perfectly, if anything else happens to them in the future.....

Was it xtreme alloys you got repaired as well? I live near to Carlisle and would get mine repaired their if you recommend them. Thanks, Paul.

Thanks

When I got mine 2 years ago I knew real world use wouldn't do them any good.so fitted allloy gaters. Not pretty but..... Only tyres I found on replacement to try to limit it was the F1's. Removed the gaters and left with rub marks.n now have 1 scuffed rim. To me Skoda are too blame, nice rims but no tyre can help limit issue. Had thought of having them fully sprayed. That way next time it's just a bit of filler and paint

I've been quoted about £50 for my repair...

Will be getting it done before winter sets in.

is the problem related to enthusiastic driving into tight corners? do the tyres come away a bit leaving the alloys exposed? I've never had a problem with any wheels before including 19's.

How can Skoda be to blame? As I say to the wife regularly (who isn't allowed to drive my vRS) just don't drive it into the bloody kerbs!

Quite simple. Put a straight edge across the tyre/rim Certainly on my standard ones they were virtually flush. Ok I'm an engineer and think of the practical every day things, like where the curb is not 90° or more to the Road. Also I don't park a foot from it, I park close as per you should.i did it once on a 1920's conservation village. The road was banked and dropped off severely. You don't do things on purpose, like you don't intended to crash into things.but.....

I didn't have this but did have my wheels profesionally refurbed by a company to the dealer before I bought it.

In terms of minor touching up is ideal as it just uses anthracite, which I also love as a practical repairable colour

( not so easy to get in stores though strangely, don't waste your time and just order online ).

With a bit of practicality you can repair most scuffs for next to free.

Its almost a relief not to have to worry the horribly vulnerable diamond cut and just get over all that.

Its designed to sell vRS, but not for long term ownership ( if you expect to have your car beyond 5 years that is and as most even in the best cases where you wouldn't dream of ever kerbing could have a rare touch ! ).
