Extras you wish you added?

Featured Replies

anyone else wish they added something else at the point of order?

I am kicking myself for not putting the sunroof on mine - last few cars all had them and didn't think I would miss it as much as i do especially now the weather is getting better - lesson learnt next time i will not be so stingy  :D

Mine was ex-demo, so didn't have the chance...

If I bought one new knowing what I know now, I am actually pretty happy with the standard NZ spec...I think the only thing I would probably pay for is the Canton unit and maybe the auto mirror package.

Be nice to have electric seats etc, but wouldn't pay for them as an option out of my own money!

Canton, lights under seats, semi-leather package

I really wish I'd gone for the petrol.

Extras wise:  I wish electric memory seats had been on offer when I bought the car but they weren't on the vRS at the time,  6ft and a 5ft 2 sharing the car (We only have one car between the two of us) means a lot of fiddling with driving positions.

+1 for petrol 1.8/2.0 TSI

ACC radar and tinted rear windows .... too lazy to do them and those few % would be better than nothing :(

Get them done at a local fitter; I cannot fathom why people spec them for in the region of £200+ when a professional tint man can do a darker tint for a fraction of the cost. I got my combi 5% light for £120, to which my daughter has benefited greatly these past few sunny weeks!

We were actually trying to get the vRS Wagon with Comfort pack & Sunroof only, but the wait times was 4+months so we ended up having to get tech pack, comfort pack, sunroof - My wallet is unhappy with this but secretly I'm glad we ended up getting everything. It's a car i'll have for a long time and knowing we didn't miss out on anything will add to my enjoyment :)

Because if they're done in the factory it's not a modification that needs to be declared to the insurance company.

electric memory seats, heated windshield and maybe DSG. other than that i think i got most of the goodies.

Similar to Item, mine was a cancelled order.

If I had the chance, Nav and Leather, she pretty much has everything else!

Rear view camera... although aftermarket ones work fine I'm kind of a ham-handed to do this sorts of things

DSG. That's the only thing I wish I could change. Maybe next time.

I would have liked a rear view camera, but it wasn't even an option at the time. If my car had been built one week later the camera would have come standard. Columbus would have been nice instead of Bolero. I ordered LEDs but the option was removed before the car was built.

Just ordered mine but I am still wondering if I made a mistake omitting the uprated phone box, LTS internet hookup and adaptive cruise control.

I had to draw the line somewhere because costs were getting crazy. I wonder how easy it is to retrofit them. Or if I can get them added to the order before its made...

I've never needed to declare on my previous three cars. ????

Is that because you've not declared it as such or because they're not bothered?

Mentioned as modification on moneysupermarket.

I've had insurers ask me about tints before, sorry I can't tell you who as because I have factory I never paid much attention.

Edit

Direct Line say it's a mod as well

couple of others have mentioned the electric folding mirrors - now i think of it i wouldn't have minded them as well but if i remember correctly when i configured mine you could only get them if you went for the electric memory seats and as i am the only person driving mien it seemed like overkill

Heated screen/winter pack - but that was forced as they 'weren't doing them on the petrols' at the time I ordered.

And Columbus. The MIB1 amundsen screen I just cannot get on board with. The crud resolution makes the satnav map look like it was drawn by Steve Wonder after a heavy session.

Thats just silly. New alloys or a soundsystem affects your insurance? Im glad its not like that here....

The "logic" is new alloys and sound system may modify the risk level with regards to theft. I suspect they also may claim statistically a 3rd party stereo or alloys may increase the chance of accident.

Whether that is right or not is another matter - but this is the reason I spec'd sunset glass rather than paying for a tint (Which I would have preferred as I could have got it darker and cheaper), I just couldn't face the "discussions" with insurers.

You also have the cost to replace like for like to factor into it as well - i.e. new alloys as you say will potentially make the car more of a target but likewise aftermarket alloys may not be as easy to get your hands on a couple of years later vs standard manufacture alloys that will be commonly available.

Direct Line say replacing your engine, or a respray, may affect the premium - I hope they don't mean like for like.

How is the keyless entry system thing? Is it worth getting? is it worth the money?

It always seemed like a security issue.

I always liked push start/keyless systems when I have had them in rental cars, but I have a heard a few things around reduced security vs a good old key. If that's the case, then I am Ok keeping my key!
