Headlight adjustment for Europe - which way to press the lever?

Featured Replies

Hi chaps,

I've got a '54-plate Roomster which I'm taking to Europe in the next couple of weeks. I've read that some headlamps can be adjusted to a flat pattern to avoid dazzling by means of a simple lever in the headlight unit. I've checked, and I have the lever! Joy of joys.

What I can't find a definitive answer on is - which direction does it need to be pushed? I've found some sources saying that the flat pattern is down on both sides, and some sources saying down on one side and up on the other... Can anyone tell me for definite what's right?

Thanks!

It stops the lower left hand beam. Just put you lights on against a wall and it is obvious when the left side beam gets cut off.

Tends to be one lever up and one down as they are usually mirror images

As previously mentioned beam pattern should be obvious and if it's not been done yet probably just involves moving each lever to the "other" position. Park facing a fence / wall and check when dusk

I've used the "levers" on my two previous Superbs although on my first one it took a few years to find them by mistake when changing a side light bulb - used Eurolites before that (which eventually damaged the headlight unit!)

Cheers guys. Tried it against my garage door tonight. Both levers were up; now both down and I'm pretty convinced the beam pattern's less high on both lefts. :)

I also just did mine and can confirm it was also both up for UK and both down for Europe.

Where IS this lever? Photo?

Behind the rubber cover at the rear of each headlight. You need to pull off the rubber flat cover, the about 12cm diameter black rubber dust cover at the rear of each heqdlight. The up/down slide bar is to one side of the bulb holder. It looks like a grey metal tab about 5mm across and 1mm wide.

The drivers side can be a bit tight with the fuel filter but you can just still get your fingers in.

Asilano, slightly off-topic, but how have you managed to get a '54 plate Roomster, seeing as the model wasn't introduced until 2006?   Earliest few I've seen were '56 plate.

Complete brain fade. It's a '57. European travel now complete, all fine. Cheers chaps!

I went to France in July and could not find any levers. I have a 63 plate so may be they have been omitted on my model. I did not bother with the converters also and from my inspection of cars parked ready to board the ferry homeward bound a very few had fitted them. I put my beams onto their lowest settings and was not flashed in Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg or France. Likewise our French friends did not bother when they came to England because they said they are not available in France.

Sorry for the post necro but I can't figure out where these levers are. Can anyone help? I'm attaching a couple of photos from the back of the nearside light.

Or does the 2015 model not have them?

Here are a couple of Photos showing the small grey lever to the right or left of the bulb cluster in the main headlights after you remove the rubber dust caps.
