Few Issues

Featured Replies

Hi all, i have a 2.0 tdi estate on an 06 plate, just gone over 100k miles

I'm having a few issues

Firstly when starting the engine from cold in the morning it runs really lumpy and feels like its miss firing until it has the chance to warm up a little. Usually about 2 - 3 minutes and after that it runs as it should. It has never failed to start but im wondering if this is the early signs of the glow plugs on their way out?

The second problem ive had twice now, will be driving along normally, come up to a junction or whatever and start slowing down and the engine will just cut out. The first time it would not start no matter how much i cranked, the second time it started after about 40/50 seconds of cranking, and has been fine since. These two incidents were roughly 3 weeks apart. The car had a new fuel pump and filter 2 weeks prior to the first time.

Final problem is when at full throttle in fourth gear or above. Noticed it on holiday on a dual carriage way overtaking a caravan. Pulled out and gave it the beans to get past and it felt really stuttery / hesitant above 2500rpm. It still pulled ok and accelerates reasonably well but i can tell somethings not quite right. Its almost as if there is a little fuel starvation but not enough to loose alot of power.

I'm wondering if problem 2 and 3 are related, and something to do with the new filter and pump. I have had the car 8 weeks now and the problems are starting to arise after the first two weeks being sweet as a nut.

Can anyone shed any light on where i should start looking? Have a bit of spare cash but cant afford to fork out hundreds right now. Thanks

Glow plug action on these engines is measured in seconds (if at all; I think the plugs are disabled above 5C ambient). A "misfire" sounds more like a fuel timing or injector issue.

so the cold start lumpyness / 'misfire' is more likely to be linked with problem 3 and i have an injector issue

Also forgot to mention there are not fault codes on the vehicle
