VRS fog light upgrade

Featured Replies

hi Guys

2015 VRS with LED DRL and different fog lights than my previous 2014 elegance model

what bulb upgrade options are there to make them match the white of the xenons? how do you replace the bulbs as the instructions in the manual bear no resemblance to reality

saw a race blue model near brandsby in north yorkshire a couple of months ago - was that anyone here? i liked the look of that one with bright white cornering fogs

cheers

Thanks

John

Why? The only times that fog lights actually do any good, the fog is so thick that you'd be better off with just fogs + running lights and no headlights.

It's the look - not the functionality and I do agree with you about the effectiveness

Make sure you order H16 (JP) bulbs, not H16 (5202)'s...been there, done that, got the wrong items...  :dull:

It will be difficult to match the colour TBH, without a lot of trial & error - one company's "5000k" is often different to another's...

I bought these, but I can't say they match perfectly!

There is a fitting guide here. I accessed them from the grilles beneath, but the little black clips are a PITA to remove without breaking. I think one out of three of mine survived, they don't seem to serve much purpose?!

Also there is a YouTube video, but it shows access from beneath, after removing the undertray etc., and using a vehicle lift...

If utilised as cornering lights then their usefulness does improve significantly.

Contrarywise; modern fog beams do not have significantly more spread than headlights, unlike, say, the old "Lucas Black Sabre".

The effectiveness of combined fog / cornering lights varies massively model to model.

Those on my pre-FL Octavia vRS were poor, the ones on the Yeti (up nice and high) were great, those on my Superb (the lens curves round the side of the bumper) are OK.

The MkIII vRS fog lights have two bulbs on each side, one optimised to perform the fog light function, the second aimed further out to the sides for the corner function...

Except the VRS foglights don't have the cornering function unless you enable it with VCDS? Unless it's been changed since I bought mine

Bear in mind that, AFAIK, if you change to LED fog light bulbs, the 'fade' function when using them as cornering lights will not work, I think I read that they will just switch on and off.

That is correct. You lose the fade. But the extra light you get is worth the loss of the fade IMHO.

At the moment I've not fitted the LED bulb to the passenger side as the water bottle is in the way so I can see the difference between the two. There is a big difference between the light output.

Incorrect information given see below.

Also just to add on the vRS you can only change them by either removing the bumper or underneath by removing the skidpan.

Can you change the Fog Light Bulbs by going in through the arch liners ?

Why not just take the mesh off below the foglight as designed?

Yep, as mentioned above, that's what I did.

Just found this new LED bulb on Ali with selectable 4300K color.

Focus is also adjustable so you can correct the beam pattern.

If somebody wants to give it a go...

Interesting. Wouldn't come off on mine and at the time all posts suggested that access underneath was the only option.

I stand corrected

I fit Londoncolour HID's on the Yeti fogs, do look rather special and you set the fogs to be activated as DRL's via Carista or VCDS :)

Can someone do an how-to or pics for the foglight change on the VRS via removal of the front-under grilles?

The fact it is possible via VCDS might support that their design is tailored to meet the needs of a dedicated cornering light. Perhaps some other markets still utilise the front fogs for the cornering feature. Perhaps the vRS in some markets doesn't get the cornering bi-xenon's as standard? Who knows.

Wrong

When I bought mine lat year cornering fogs were a ~£100 option.

Wrong

Thanks for this helpful post.  :dull:  Care to explain?

For your information, I coded mine to activate as cornering lights last night (I have LED's fitted). Guess what happened? They only switched 'on' or 'off'. No fade...hence I deactivated them again, as I don't like the effect personally.

Perhaps yours are different?
