  • This thread has got horribly confusing. To clarify:   1. The 230 has a different exhaust to the 220, designed to sound more sporty, and there are various YouTube clips demonstrating this. It doesn't

  • When I was a kid I simulated all the engine and the tyre skidding noises for my Dinky and Corgi cars. Lips got sore after a while though.

I can still do a pretty reasonable representation of a Merlin engined Spitfire performing a flypast! Of course very few Australians would recognise it as such.

Time to lay off the Tooheys!

Here are some part numbers for RS230 exhaust middle part.

Did you measure the diameter of the exhaust?

I prefer mine set up in the individual mode with all the vrs items enabled but the engine sound switched off.

The crackle and bark from the exhaust is more than enough aural delight for me without some synthesised rumble entering the cabin.

The noise from exhaust takes me back to the 90's and a lovely Vauxhall Astra GSI C20XE I used to own - a nice hard edged bark rather than a drone or boom found with aftermarket exhausts

Did you measure the diameter of the exhaust?

Pipe going into the first silencer/muffler was about 64mm on the outside.

Ok, thanks.

Ok, thanks.

Seemed to be stainless steel.

I didn't know you could do that!! Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow :-) Any advice welcome .

Quite envious - the standard VRS TSI sounds like...well nothing really when you are outside it.

:(

The centre muffler on 230 is completely different than those of 220. Cylindrical as opposed to Prism shape, slightly smaller too by the looks of it, similar in length though.

Any photos for the two rear mufflers?

You mean that the 230 has a simulated sound too? :/

Glad I didnt order one now.

I have coded it away. The sound generator was a bit annoying.

It has a lovely exhaust sound though. Pretty silent under 3000 rpm. But on full throttle you hear it.

Maybe that's where the extra 10 ps comes from........

Perfect, a civilized nippy car!

My wife's Citigo sounds better on idle then my vRS. Tragic really.

It sounds horrendous in my opinion.

IRL its pretty good. So I have to disagree Sir.

All just a matter of opinion...something that some people can't accept sometimes on this forum!

Yeah videos can often badly distort the actual sounds exhausts make - and admittedly not heard one in real life!

True! It is something that can make this forum useless. Politeness is forgotten by more and more people.

Good point Sir.

Same. The warbling burble when doing some silly acceleration is lovely. I don't care if it might be slightly fake, it does its job and I am not paying silly money in materials and fuel for the 'real deal'.

Seem to remember that someone asked for the part no for the 230 exhaust parts. They are in the pictures below.

Yeah I did and found the numbers.

Concensus is its not worth it and very expensive for a very mediocre improvement.

Also the 230 exhaust is nothing to get wet about either. Might as well be looking at a Remus for that money.

Other options ( prbably better than the 230 exhaust ), certainly more options  is aftermarket

On a real cheap note just switch out the middle silencer with a Vibrant which 99Reza has some interesting posts on which to me sound even meaner than the 230.

From the videos he' posted it will sound equal to the 230, possibly even a bit better if you have the time to mess about working. I've decided not to touch at this time as it would involve invalidating any remaining warranty on the exhaust, amonst other factors to consider.

As bad as the warbler is also I don't think the outside of the car will ever sound quite so prominent, the vRS is very smooth/subtle on the outside even as a 230 ? Its no Impreza.

Would have gone for the Remus if I could get it through MOT in Norway. So until then the 230 standard is OK.
