Monte Carlo 1.6 TDI long term re map

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My first post so hello, been looking on here a while but only joined up today. I recently purchased a Monte Carlo estate 1.6 tdi. Fantastic little car and ticks all the boxes. However although I am impressed with the power of the engine for what it is I did start thinking about possible re map options. I have read a few threads on here about them being a great option and giving mark 1 vrs power which all sounds great, but these threads are inevitably always started right after the re map is done.

My question is how are these re mapped cars 2 -3 years down the line? has anyone been running this engine on a map for a few years? I am not an expert on engines whatsoever and you constantly read conflicting reports on these things. With this being one of the newest cars ive ever owned and still in warranty im keen not to kill it :) and after all the re map is a nice to have I could cope without it. Although I did used to own a mk 1 vrs so that kind of power would be a welcome bonus!

Thanks in advance, hopefully posting this in the right place.

Welcome to the forum.

'Brimma' was one of the first to have a Stage 1 on the 1.6 TDI CR at Shark Performance.

Never heard of him or anyone else having issues since they have had it done, and these were done a couple of years ago.

Someone will be along soon that has had it done and still has the car.

These engines are very well put together and share lots of parts with its 2.0tdi big brother, keep it serviced every 10,000 miles, look after the turbo and be sure to give it a good hard run once a week and it won't go wrong.

Quite a few people have pushed them to over 200bhp (with added parts of course) and have been running that since 2013 without issue, so that gives me some confidence.

As for the above statement, if its true... Im pleased to hear they share some parts from the 2.0 TDI engine, sounds like an added bonus!

Like above had mine done December 2014 been dyno'd at 142hp and fitted an intercooler since and haven't had a single problem car is now on 33k miles. Best thing I've done, power is nice and smooth and better on fuel when driven right.

Thanks for the replies, can I ask if you recommend any other mods if I remap it? My other consideration is what happens when I go to sell it, do people tend to map it back to normal? Or sell as is? I wonder if this could put people off.

I've been looking at a TMC Motorsport tuning box for my monte but never really been sold on the "tuning box" idea?

If anyone has used a TMC box before I'd like to hear some reviews
