4x4 tdi performance 😕

Featured Replies

We have a 2018 4x4 SEL estate tdi150 manual. Performance is dull compared to a 110tsifabia and a tdi170 superb. Fuel economy is OK, but not great. The 170 we had before was better. Is it ad blue that takes the edge off everything or have we just got one that is a bit lifeless?  Anyone had one remapped? I was wondering about remap or trade in for a 200bhp dsg. I expect this will be about the last manual 4x4.that was available. Currently 90k on the clock. Any thoughts?

The 150 is heavier than the Furbie and has less power and torque than the 170,

I have the 190 4x4 tdi dsg. I'm not feeling it to be honest. The acceleration and 0-60 time is there but my old fwd fabia with 105ps felt better. I'm also considering a remap

The AWD system adds a lot of weight, saps power and ruins the fuel economy. Did you not consider this before you bought it?

I find the newer generation of engines leauges ahead of the old ones. I think my 140 Superb II  was about 10 seconds to 60, my Passat 150 is around 8.5. It is like a rocket ship compared to the superb for what seems like a similar engine on paper

Don't get me wrong i still need neck braces if i tap the gas on boost in low gear, and the reduced understeer + zero wheel slip more than make up for the downsides. It's just how lazy the car feels when it's anywhere under 2000rpm that ruins it. You've only really got 2000-3500rpm to play with, or 4.3k in kickdown

I think throttle mapping and the 4x4 is the key to the feeling. Safe, not lively.

The 280 petrol is the same, feels a bit dull at low throttle but goes like a scalded cat when flooring it.

A remap might help, not necessarily for more power but because throttle mapping can be changed meaning it feels more lively.

If you got vcds obd11, you can always change the throttle setting to Audi mode

Worth a shot and free to try if you already got the kit

in my experience with my tdi190 4x4 dsg a slightly filled dpf will make the car pull lazy.

A dpf with 9mbar at idle after regen makes the car drive sluggish.

After a succesful diy clean with Wurth dpf spray the result was 4mbar at idle after regen and it makes a big difference

If it's better feel you are after and the overall power is good, I'd recommend a pedal box.  It's a kind of piggy back device that plugs inline with the throttle cable at the pedal end.  Makes the response adjustable and can dial out any lag or sluggishness.  Mine is on my second car now and I don't think I could own a VAG car without one.

Try leaving it in "Sport" mode for a while, see if that improves the experience.

Agree with this - makes a world of difference to the throttle feel.

Another vote here for a pedal box. Makes the throttle response at low revs far more manageable. Completely removes the factory throttle lag when pulling away or needing a sharper response for overtaking etc.

Will also work with a Map if you decide to go down that route, and can be changed to another car if you also decide to go for a 190 as well.
I have a DTE pedal box pro on mine, which I can highly recommend. It’s fitted and tucked up behind the dash, and I use the phone app to change settings if required.
im sure some of the others will have recommendations for which ever units they are using as well. Should give you some options to look at if you decide to try one.

I have the non pro version. The little cubby by the right knee* is a good hidey hole.

* My Octavia had this so assuming the superb does too.

Racechip for me. Thought I'd be conservative with mine and have it on Sport+ (there is Eco, Sport and Race with + versions of each for more options than you need really). Ended up putting it on Race+ and prefer the hairline trigger of it. That's a petrol so will have different response but it'll help yours significantly too.

It does have the coin tray but I have mine cable tied up behind the dash out of the way completely and use the app if I need to adjust it.
after the initial setup I’ve had no need to go near it though and forget it’s even there until something like this thread reminds me I have one. 😂

@UndertheRadar My main reason for having it in the cubby is due to the nonpro version not having bluetooth.  You are right though, once fitted it's very easy to forget it's there.  I take that as a massive tick for it being a good product that just does what you want it to with no fuss.
