New to Superb few queries?

Featured Replies

Just bought a 2014 superb estate elegance TDI CR140, and just looking for a little advice on a few things, having previously had a mk2 octavia i think i may know the answer to the first one but wanna ask before i pull the doorcard. Are the trims removeable in the doorcards or are they bonded? As i say i know the doorcard trims on the octavia are glued in place. Secondly ive read conflicting information about timing belt intervals, the car is only on 46k, am I right in saying the interval is 75k? Is there a way to code a new style keyfob to the last of the superb? And finally I have a columbus fitted from standard can i update the maps to 2016 without too much hassle?

Thanks in advance

I can answer a couple (I've a 2014 Elegance estate - diesel and manual):

Secondly ive read conflicting information about timing belt intervals, the car is only on 46k, am I right in saying the interval is 75k?

On my 2014 1.6d estate, it is 140,000 miles or 5 years - whichever comes soonest.

And finally I have a Columbus fitted from standard can i update the maps to 2016 without too much hassle?

My Columbus was easy to update - its a case of inserting the latest maps DVD and letting it do its work. There are write ups here that say you can use an SD card but mine wouldn't do a thing with it. After phoning Skoda, they told me it was DVD only on my late model year (2014) Superb.

There is a good thread here - see the section on updating the maps in the first post: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/298284-guide-upgrading-columbus-firmware-and-maps/

Yeah ive just read about the updating via sd card, i still have my octy as its awaiting sale, so will pinch sd card out of the bolero in that and give it a go, 140k seems alot, but i suppose it will reach 5 years sooner ill just use my brain and check condition of the belt on occasion. Thanks for the response

Skoda Superb Mk2 with Columbus needs either the maps dvd, or the data fro the dvd on an sd card and a firmware fix. You can't use an sd card just on its own.

Hi Rustyuts - given your expertise, I have a quick question. I have a 2014 like the OP, its a Columbus. I updated it with the latest maps ( 2016, V13 8348) but I left the (factory) firmware alone (it was already SW-Version 5238 which I'd read was the min required for these maps.)

The question is this: The unit is a H10 - what do you recommend for the firmware?

5238 is fine mate. There's an update to 5270 which would gain you nothing much, so I'd just stick with what you have. The maps would go on any standard firmware anyway, it's only when people have fecked about with custom firmwares (which can reduce the maps partition size) it can be a problem.

Yes, the dealer or someone friendly nearby with the DVD...

The dealer/stealer will be expensive. I've heard over £160 and a brother in law was quoted €186 by VW here in Ireland. They are also bad at having out of date DVD's. Also, don't ask the dealer for one using your VIN - they could give you something years out of date.

FYI - the latest maps for Western Europe, 2016  are V13 and the version number will be 8348.  So, you are looking for a DVD that has V13, Western Europe and is for the "RNS 510" - that is the Volkswagen generic model name for the Skoda/Seat/VW equivalent to the Columbus.

There is lots of these DVD's on eBay but the legality/quality/risk of junk is a buyer beware situation.

Thanks for that Rusty - your advice is much appreciated.

That's not the latest anymore. V14 is already on sale.

Yes it is, but unavailable in the UK just yet (through official channels) as it's not showing on VW Etka yet.

It might be in the Netherlands but its not in Ireland just yet.
