Mk3 tsi

Featured Replies

Just looking for advice. Not had my mk3 a week yet but already having a few minor issues.1.reception for FM radio is just about non exsistant. 2.only 1 fog lamp on the rear is working but no bulb out light on dash. 3. Touch screen has frozen twice now. 4. Lights on climate control speed control go off when on 4th setting. 5. No illumination on dash when dipped beam is on. Anyone else had these issues know of any fixes for radio etc.

More details about the car, whether new/second hand, specification, type of lights, what type of radio fitted and any other relevant info would be useful for others to assist you.

I do know that one fog lamp working on the back is standard though. You would need someone with VCDS software to turn both on, but one is actually legal.

1. Don't know

2. Per design - you can enable the 2 fogs using VCDS/OBDeleven

3. Known issue. Rumour has it that Skoda has acknowledged and is working on a fix, but there is no ETA for that. A workaround is to long-press the power button until the unit hard reboots

4. Don't know

5. Have you checked the interior illumination level on the car settings?

1. I only use DAB, but the wife uses FM. There have been complaints on here but I'm happy with reception. There may be some difference between hatch and estate due to different aerial location, but I don't know the details.

2. I defer to others on this.

3. The touch screen isn't great (I find zooming a map particularly tricky) but if it's freezing you should take it back.

4. Lights on climate control speed go off when it's in 'auto', but I think mine are on at all settings if I adjust it manually (I think, but I don't pay it that much attention).

5. Do you mean no backlighting of dash in general, or no indicator that your dipped beam is on? I find the lack of a dipped beam indicator light annoying, but from memory I think there is a subtle change in dash lighting when the dipped beam comes on. Subtle enough not to be too noticeable in murky daylight conditions, more so at night I think. Again, I'm not 100% sure, I'll look next time I'm in the car!

There is an indicator on the light switch itself when dipped beam on.

Thanks for reply folks. It's a 2014 hatch. Not got a clue what headunit it is, all i know is its the upgraded sond system with woofer in the boot. Yeah i ment no dipped beam icon on the dash. No ariel as it's in the rear screen.

There is a Software update for the Radio ( Bolaro ). Mine freeze's in cold/damp conditions and it also changes stations by it's self. Once the inside of the car is warm all is ok.

Not getting the updates done as the car will be gone in a few days.

No dipped beam indicator is on the dash, only next to the switch - just leave it in Auto and forget about it!

One foglight is the norm - God knows why they made it with 2 and only switch one on to work in the factory!

Think the rest has been covered.

4. If you don't have the climate control in auto, it will stop the fan speed light when you select the speed that the automatic would be running if it was on.

Because that way right hand and wrong hand drive cars can use the same rear light clusters and still satisfy the Eurocrats who think that 2 rear fog lights can be mistaken for brake lights!

Other manufactures do though? My 5 Series had 2 active rear fog lights!

Even VAG do (sometimes) - the Audi B6 A4 only has 1 rear fog light but the newer B7 A4 has 2 fog lights.

The suggestion that 2 rear fog lights can be confused for brake lights is a very weak argument as since 1998 (earlier in the US, Australia & New Zealand) UN Regulation 48 has required cars in Europe to have 3 brake lights.

Exactly, but I think in the estate it's in one of the side windows of the boot. Anyway, mine is a hatch too (May 2013 build) and I've not had a problem.

The threshold level at which it turns the lights on is much more in line with my thinking than in my previous car or my wife's car (the wife's clio likes it ridiculously dark before the lights come on), so this is exactly what I do. Been caught out a couple of times when it's been serviced and the garage left the lights properly off, then I've driven about 5 yards down the road thinking "there's something not right here" before my brain twigs that it's a lack of lights!

The FM signal in my 2016 vRS is rubbish, even a national radio station like Radio 1 is intermittent in spots.

I drive the same journey and all my previous skoda's were fine
