Over sensitive ambient light sensor?

Featured Replies

The Columbus display in my SE L seems to swap to night mode very readily. On a bright day, even the shade from an overhanging tree can change the map display to white on black.

Anyone else notice this?

Is the sensitivity adjustable? If so, how?

This is my only, over pedantic, niggle with the car after 2 months of ownership. At this stage with my previous Jaguar XE, I had a two page list of faults and snags with that car.

Doesn't the Columbus only change between day and night modes when the headlights come on? It does on mine and it hardly changes but I do have the headlight sensitivity set to "Late"

As above.. the unit goes to night mode when the headlights come one.

I have mine set to late and even at late the headlights come on far too early and dont turn off in daylight for a few minutes.

This morning it did it at 9am when it was sunny.

When i set mine to early.. the headlights where on all the time near enough.

(off topic, but make sure you have the headlights on when raining tick box ticked )

This is partially the reason I always turn the lights on and off myself (I go from off to Auto... never left in Auto position)

The beauty of having LED DRL’s (and the rear DRL’s coded to come on with the front ones) is they are bright enough to be seen in all conditions (apart from maybe in fog) I only actually turn the lights on when I need to see (which is around the same time as when the dashboard clocks illumination goes out)

For some odd reason many of the auto lighting sensors read a clear blue sky as overcast and getting dark, so bringing the lights on. Put a few clouds into that sky and the sensors are then happy!

Thanks, that all makes sense.  I have now changed to the "late" setting, which has helped a bit, still seems over sensitive to light and shade on bright days though.

I'll learn to live with this.
