Dieselgeek short shifter fitted

Featured Replies

Finally got round to getting it fitted this afternoon. Went round to SWMBO

house and got her dad to fit it for me FOC :D, apparently it was quite a neat fit with no modification needed (as i'd hoped).

Cost $195. Needed to pay for shipping & 10 pack of stella for the privilege.

First impressions.

Gear changes much smoother and noticably shorter. You can pretty much fire it through 1st, 2nd and 3rd with virtually no delay in shifting. Certainly must reduce 0-60 times by a second.

In gear driving is just a bit more convenient. and easier to switch up and down the gearbox.

Is it worth it? well I am happy with my outlay and the gains it has given. The gear stick is a little bit smaller too :D (not got the tape measure out). It looks to be about 5cm shorter and feels in the right place now for my long arms :)

Had a Prodrive "quick-shift" fitted on the Scooby and the gear change was transformed.

Scooby WRX I drove had a fairly long throw so I can see how a short shifter may improve things :D

The change wasn't too bad to begin with on the vRS but it just lacked that quick throw that my previous car had :D

How is the gearstick shorter?

The dieselgeek mechanism is all in the engine bay as it's a replaces the selector arm.

Errmmm Errmmm, must be a placebo affect

5cm is a huge difference to

I always thought these were a bit gimicky, obviously I was wrong, interesting.

*gotta get these thoughts out of my head*

I've tried one of the diesel geek ultra's in a Golf Mk4 and it does make a big difference. I'd probably have one by now but as they don't have skoda's in the US especially 4x4 Octavia's they're not sure which one will fit my car.

Ahem - I think piccies and a "how it works" is needed, please? ;)

5cm is a big difference, some inspection will be needed tonight m'thinks. i'm sure it was shorter. maybe because the changes were quicker it felt smaller :)

I too thought it was a bit gimicky until I read up on it, I do 1/4 miles at Elvington and have yet to get better than a 6.7. Trying to keep pace with my brother is killing me (not literally, well not yet anyway) who managed 5.8 in his Clio 172 Cup. I'm hoping for low 6's now.

Cheers Eddie

Cant see the point really. Its one of the best smooth gear boxes I've ever had!!

Thanks Eddy - I think this is the one for 6 speed VW type cars? Is this the one for the Fabia I wonder. From the piccies, I'm trying ot fathom out exactly what it does - seems to shorten the distance the gearknob travels?

Sorry no pics i'm afraid. I didn't have a digital camera with me and most of the time I wasnt even there. Paul and his best mate "Brooky the jim'll fix it of cars" fitted it for me.

Best reading the link above for info.

Yeah, basically it reduces the gear throw and makes changing easier, upto 40% apparently :D. Not had long to try it out "yet".

Yes it reduces gear throw in all directions and also aids precision due to the the billet aluminim mechanism rather than the standard plastic.

GaryM who owns the Golf I drove did it himself and said it was very easy and took the advised 45mins AFAIK.

I had a B&M Short Shifter on my Polo and it was one of the best mods I did.

Made the car feel a lot more sporty.

I'll do a proper review of it guys tomorrow when I get a chance to drive it again. SWMBO has just gone to Tesco's to do the weekly shop!

oh ffs I am getting fed up of this site...

I simply cannot afford this if I am getting a rear ARB aswell, I do have to spend money outside of my car you know

Hellfire let us know what you think, I am tempted, sorley tempted

It'll be in the pipeline after i've had my bangers and mash :)

I have a Dieselgeek Ultra fitted to my 6speed box (02M) in my Golf, thats the one Eddy tested.

Install was very easy, around 40 minutes in total including setting it up.

It felt slightly notchy for a week until it either bedded in or I got used to it but now it gives a very positive engagement.

There won't be any shorter gearsticks or reduced 0-60 times by 1 second, a tenth of a second maybe?

What it does give is a very sporty drive, wouldnt be without mine now.

Had a chance to fully test it last night. Not notchy in the slightest and even though there may be no better 0-60 times it certainly feels more engaging to drive hence it feels quicker. Changing gear has never been so much fun!

As for the gearstick being shorter I still remain unconvinced. Admittadly I never paid too much attention to it before but it feels shorter . Obviously a placebo effect.

Definately a worthwhile upgrade IMO

Be convinced, unless he took a hacksaw to your gearstick!!

The only bits that are changed are the front to back and side to side shifters on top of the gearbox in the engine bay.
