Yes or No ?

Looks like it. Wireless Local Area Network. WLAN is there. It isn't on mine, which is six months old.

Yep, standard fit now. Mine has it.

Yes.

I've spent ages reading the specs and the Amundsen manual and, yes, it's got it.

From the manual:

Hotspot (WLAN) and data connection
Hotspot (WLAN)
Introduction to the subject
Applies to Columbus, Amundsen (not applicable to Yeti).

I think unless you have the SIM slot between the SD slots it is only for connection to play music.

I have it but no SIM slot and so far have not found a use for it

I've managed to connect wlan to my phone, you need to enable your phone to be used as a mobile hotspot. Dont know what use it is though

You can connect to CarPlay via WLAN instead of cable method....I think. ;-)

I would love to hear more about this. Has anyone tried wireless CarPlay with wlan?

I'm very curious about this as well. Here in Sweden, some dealers say that the car comes with WiFi in combination with wireless charging and Amundsen. Other dealers don't even know about the wireless charging.

However, I have understood that the Amundsen doesn't hav a SIM-card slot, so the function in this setup must be to share your phones connection to make a wifi hotspot in the car. This is already avaliable in the phone, but I guess battery life will be better if it's the car that does the hotspotting.

Here in Sweden, at least, it's very unclear what function you get. The configurator just says WLAN, nothing about how it actually works. I've tried configurating the Superb too, and it has even more strange and/or similar options for connectivity. I've spoken to customer service, who says that wireless charging is included in the Style trim, but the configurator (or the contract for that matter) doesn't say anything about it. Other dealers (not the one I bought from) says that WLAN is included, while the dealer I bought my future car from is unsure of the wireless charging itself. Too bad I started asking these questions after the deal was signed...

My car will arrive in one or two weeks, and it will be interesting to see what is actually there.

If anyone has tested the WLAN with Amundsen, please share your experience!

For me, in short. If the wifi is being provided just by tethering your phone it's a waste of time. If the wifi is being provided through the use of a dedicated SIM within the car, it's a bit more useful.

I'd always opt to share my phones connection. I'm not sure why you'd want to pay for an addition SIM, either through monthly subscription or a pay as you go type scenario, if you can just tether a phone. That's just me though.

My thoughts on why you might want your car to provide a WiFi hotspot function rather than using a tethered phone:

1. Firstly most people will not want to leave their phone's hotspot function on all the time, as much as anything to reduce battery usage. Using the car's hotspot means that the energy usage comes from the car's systems in which respect it is a trivial load.

2. The point of a hotspot is to enable all the car's occupants to share the access to the internet. Once you have set this up on a device it will auto-connect to it when in the car. Using a phone's hotspot is inevitably going to be more hassle as it may depend on who is in the car, and as in (1) above, whether the hotspot function is on or not.

3. There may also be other functions that a car hotspot can provide, like internet radio and Spotify etc. from the head unit, although this does depend on what features the head unit offers. In time it should be possible to also have internet TV on seat backs and so on.

So ultimately it is just more convenient to have a car-based hotspot. It's rather similar to WiFi at home - would you use a phone hotspot there?
