Battery gone flat :(

Featured Replies

Just after quick thoughts. Fabia normally used daily, however has been sat for a week, done a five minute journey, then left for a week, until today, didn't start.

No lights left on, not sure of cause, could a new battery be in order? Or any other thoughts on the cause

get it started( if you've got breakdown cover at home -get them to test battery), or then take it to one of the fast fit centres and get them to test battery and charging system. Might be worth a ring round of the places first to see who charges what for a battery ,and if they charge to fit.

How old is the car  & battery ? Might help other posters decide what you need.

Car is a 2002, not sure of age of battery. I'm very limited with what I can do with it at the minute as I'm working 7 day weeks, with no chance of getting time off work for the rac man to get to me.

Ordered some jump leads online in the hope I can see if I can get someone to jump start it for me.

What happened when you turned the key?

Silence/nothing?

Click but no cranking?

Cranking but no start?

Started turning over, but didn't start up, all internal lights came on (power steering, brake fluid etc)

If you need a new try web site Tayna, usually about half the price of Halfords etc.  Also check your batteries and the same dimension as the one suggested as vehicles sometimes change standard battery size and auto-factors tables are therefore wrong ie wrong post size, wrong height, length or depth.

Batteries often die off this time of year as they start to get a harder life one colder, darker weather comes about.  Batteries can last 6 or 7 years but oft best to change at 4 or 5 I find.

I'd love to be able to take my car to a garage, but I'm limited to either getting a jump start from someone, getting the rac man out, or getting a new battery and the tools to put it in my car myself!

Just ring a mobile mechanic from the local paper, pay cash and save a fortune, he can test everything right where it is and fit a new battery if needed.

Replacing a battery is about the easiest job you can do on a car.  Trying to keep any radio unlock code whilst disconnected can be a bit challenging.

Price can be less than £40 for a battery for the Fabia petrol (but check the dimension ie size in CMs).

Using a mechanic etc and other suppliers can leave you without much change from a £100.

I would normally do it myself, or at least have a go, but I'm working 18 hour days, with no way of checking what size battery I need, no tools to do it with, and no light to work under :(

So you can afford to pay someone to sort it then.

Hum, I was having the same thoughts, 18 hours 7 days a week, that looks like 126 hour weeks, maybe you are keeping someone else out of a job?
