Gettin' Low on a Budget

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

I basically wanted to know what is the lowest springs you'd go on stock shocks?

Looking around at new suspension but it's so much cheaper to get new springs.

Would this be looked at as a big no no? I'm aware that it's a bit unethical to put springs on stock shocks but i need to get my baby a little closer to the ground

Skoda offered the Eibach Pro-Kit springs as a dealer fit option from new on the MK2 (and MK3 I think) Octavia VRS.

Eibach Pro-Kit claims to be up to 30mm lowering and it leaves a nice even drop all round but not nearly as low as some other springs.

If you really wanted to then those would be the best choice although dampers and springs would be by far the preferred option.

You can get them here for £140 which is not a lot really, the full B12 Pro-Kit (Pro-Kit springs with Bilstein B8 dampers) is a little more than £500

5 slabs in the boot...

The only top end companies that offer extra low springs for the mk2 octavia are

Vogtland -50mm which i have and lowerd my vrs around 35mm, i would recomend very good price and no spring touching noise issues like some people have had with the h&r extra low

H&R do an extra low spring which again is a -50mm spring that will lower a vrs around -35mm, but they are expensive and people have had issues of the coils touching and making noises

most companies claims of the lowering amount are based on a standard octavia ride height so for a vrs/sport models you need to allow about 10-15mm difference as they are already lower in stock form .

I had to replace my springs urgently due to a snapped spring other wise i would probably of saved up and gone for APcoilovers, your shocks will probably not last very long if they are original .

Getting low on a budget then fk ak streets at around £200 is your best option. You will give up some ride quality though, I've had mine on over 3 years and only now after years of abuse and running silly low are they showing signs of tiring.

I went with the Vogtland 50mm setup. Very happy with it now

I wouldn't go too low on standard shocks, maybe 30mm max. Eibach Pro Kit is designed for standard shocks. Got them on my van and they have been great. Got the H&R -50mm Cup Kit on which lowered the VRS around 20mm but it has probably settled a bit more now. The H&R springs do seem to touch as you can see the marks on the coils but never had any noise. It's good to drive on these but if I was doing it again I would prob go for Eibach.

I take it there are no speed bumps or potholes where you are!
