Columbus Map Update help

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm trying to update the maps in my 63 Octavia VRS with Columbus Nav. The system shows as having 2013 maps, and I downloaded the latest P157 maps from the Skoda update portal. I thought I followed the instructions but cannot get the Columbus to recognise the update when I go into the update software bit of the Maps Section.

I extracted the HIGH_P157_EU_2017.ZIP directly to the SD card with 7ZIP. SD Card is a 64GB formatted with ExFat. Inside the HIGH_P157 folder on the SD card, is 2 subfolders MIB1 and MIB2.

What have I missed or what am I doing wrong?

Any help appreciated, thought it would be much more straightforward than it has turned out to be!

Cheers

Have you told the Columbus to update under the setup information menu ?

Also try formatting card to fat32, may not like exfat

Yes I have done that under the Setup Information menu. I can't format to Fat32, only ExFat or NTFS. I believe this is because it is > 32GB and only ExFat is supported at this size.

I've just read online that I need the MIB1 and MIB2 at the top level of the card so will try this. Thanks for your suggestions!

That's a restriction imposed by Microsoft in their Windows format program, the FAT32 standard can actually support drives up to 16TB.

So as said above download a third-party format program and you'll be fine - I have a 256GB SDXC card formatted to FAT32 with all my music on plugged into the SD2 card slot.

Thanks for your help guys! After moving the MIB1 and MIB2 folders to the root of the card, it picked up the update, even with ExFat. When I originally extracted the downloaded zip to the card, it put the Mib1 and Mib2 inside a folder which matched the name of the downloaded zip.

Can I ask what maps you downloaded? I'm due a update to my Columbus, I entered my VIN number onto the Skoda update portal and it offers me the 2017 maps but when clicking download I get a error message displayed on the website.

Any ideas people?

It's just a warning, if you have less than 2017 agree to download

I'm clicking download maps and then I get the next webpage showing the error with the text.

Is the 2017 maps uploaded anywhere else that I could grab them from?

You can use NTFS for the SD-card with no problems (I've updated a few times like this).

The folders MIB1, MIB2 & a txt file should be at the root of your SD-card (not Inside a folder).

You can also use a USB portable hard-drive connected to the Columbus for the update.

It doesn't really speed things up but the hard-drive method seems less picky about the formatting & content of the drive as I've updated several times with many other Windows files on the disk without problems.
