Kodiaq or Superb Estate?

Featured Replies

Serious question, especially if you are a diesel lover, since the 190 ps lump is available in both cars.

Since I'm a petrol bloke, not such a good comparision, this new 180 ps engine is a bit of an odd-ball, max power from 3,900 - 6,000 rpm is strange,

as is the dual injection setup & a very high compression ratio. Probably cleaner but 100 ps down on a 4x4 Superb.

Otherwise, it's a bit shorter than a Superb, the electronic toys are even more up-to-date, has more seats than I require but probably decent luggage space

& possibly easier to climb in / out. (Age related thinking here...)

I think I'm going to have to wait a few months before I/we can decide bit I'd be pleased to hear any comments.

The same dilemma for me. Although I have whole year until the swap, I am already scouting.

Kodiaq pros:

- LED lights

- slightly bigger loading capacity

- bigger towing capacity

- higher entrance (middel age!)

- new 7 speed DSG

Cons:

- LED lights not "smart" ones, as Superb`s Smart Light Assist

- weak engines. No 280 PS petrol (well, questionable for SUV, but anyway), no 240 PS diesel.

- top versions only 7 seaters. Don`t need it, I prefer loading capacity.

- only 8" navigation screen versus facelifted Octavia`s 9,2". Probably they all high rank Skodas will get these eventually, but why not to start with it? Which leads us to:

- being Skoda`s flagman, poor list of options. No HUD, no passanger seat memory etc,

- back door not being operated from inside via button, but some kind of pull - thing?

I currently drive a Superb L&K 4x4 2.0l. I have a towing capacity of 2200kg - just enough too tow a trailer and 2 light horses. Am I correct in thinking that if I want an SE-L Kodiaq I will be limited to 2000kg towing capacity. Or like the Disco Sport is there an option to remove the extra seats and increase the capacity to 2500kg? if not, I struggle to see the point of a vehicle this size with less towing capacity than a Yeti (2100kg). If this query has been addressed elsewhere - apologies, can someone enlighten me ?

Haven`t seen the actual figures per version, but according to press it`s max 2500 kg versus 2200 kg for Superb.

- The Kodiaq LED headlights do have the AFS system but I have been told that Smart Light Assist will be an option when ordering.

- While not confirmed for full production they are doing R&D with the 240PS BiTDI engine

- Definitely agree on this one, it should be an option to remove them.

- If you look at the visualiser on the Skoda International website and go in the interior view selecting the Style trim you will see the 9.2" display. Not available yet obviously but probably will be released as a minor facelift (IIRC coinciding with the Active Info Display launch)

EDIT: AID launching April 2017 so the Kodiaq most likely won't be the first Skoda with the technology: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/advice/news/2016/skoda-to-offer-virtual-cockpit-in-early-2017/

- No HUD a disappointment but passenger seats do have memory (at least internationally)

- If you've been in the latest VW Passat or Touareg (probably many more VW and maybe even Skodas with this) but the boot release is a pull-switch, kinda like a window switch.

Next week there will be a review of Kodiaq in Auto Express

Certainly on Xenon, the AFS isn't that good and doesn't really do anything IMO.

Yes the beam moves when you turn the steering wheel but that's only really noticeable at slow speeds.

I haven't driven either, but my experience (both personal and observed) is that a "normal car" or MPV is easier for those with stiff leg joints to get in and out of than an SUV.

Good Lord. Two consecutive posts that I disagree with. Not like Briskoda at all...

Caradoc,

Unfortunately you're correct!

Our Yeti tows 2100kg but a 7 seat Kodiaq can only pull 2000kg. Whilst the 5 seaters can legally pull 2500kg I don't want a lower powered/ poorer spec car than I've already got, so I hope we could delete seats from the higher spec/ higher powered versions. Otherwise we're heading elsewhere....

Seat Ateca in top spec also out tows the Kodiaq at 2100kg !

Wait for 2017 Skoda Superb Facelift Scout version. A much better car with less wind resistance compared to Kodiaq which is a sedan in terms of Ground clearance.

I'm not sure how you can disagree with "I have a stiff knee and find it easier to get in and out of a normal car than an SUV"? I accept that YMMV, but that is a statement of personal fact, and not open to the disagreement of 3rd parties.

Which two posts might they be, kind Sir?

The two posts immediately above my post.

The two posts immediately above my post.

And yet you appear unable to explain how/why you can disagree with one of those posts.

Well I`ve been drooling over substituting my L&K Yeti Outdoor (170bhp 4x4) for a Kodiak next spring (SEL 190bhp DSG), however I was EXTREMELY disappointed to find out that to get that spec I am forced to have 7 seats,I cannot even spec up a SE because they do not list the 190 engine, this means that I am in fact paying £1000 for something that I do not want that is taking up valuable boot space. This spec is listed in other markets so I can only assume that Skoda UK have been very shortsighted in making this spec only available to people who need 7 seats.

So as far as I am concerned I am going to order a Superb 190 4x4 DSG Estate.

Put some Yeti shocks and larger wheels on my 8 month old Superb Estate and PRESTO - the New Kodiaq!

Not going to work very well in lifting it or stopping the tyres rubbing, it will be longer springs you want to fit as well as dampers.

Yeah, I had, ahem, a small operation just so I never needed an extra row of seats - ever.  Even though they say that the RV should be higher because of 7 seats I wouldn't now buy an SEL on principle and especially since it's chromed too.

Interested in umbral's Scouted Superb find.  The last Outdoor wasn't quite there

What's it like driving a Yeti with over 2 tons dragging along behind? :-)

And what's the fuel consumption?

Yeti = Brilliant! A truly epic tow car.

This boat and trailer combo weighed 2050 kg and our 170 Yeti 4x4 made easy work of it over 200 miles from Portsmouth to Cornwall along the stupidly hilly coast road.

I'd have a 7 seat Kodiaq if it could also do this legally! My Yeti can but the Kodiaq can't - I've said it before but; simply clever = not!

Skoda UK's configuratior confirms that I must accept a poverty spec Kodiaq if I wish to tow our boat!

Can't have a decent sized engine or leather or Xenons as standard in my Yeti.

Hello Land Rover, Hyundai and Kia - all 7 seaters with 2500kg + tow weights and sensible lease deals (£300-£400pm).

Such a shame....
