No bend lighting (AFS) function

Featured Replies

Hi,

Need quick help.

AFS not functioning. No big deal except the headlights are now lowered to emergency position. Which means I can only see about 6 meters ahead. But I am somewhere in Poland and 1100 km to home, last 500 kilometers in darkness.

Any chance to reset the lights somehow?

Check whether one of the suspension level sensors has disconnected. Hopefully it's just a matter of popping the ball joint back together and everything will work again. Have a look at the pictures here: https://www.google.ie/search?q=HID+VW+suspension+sensor&safe=off&rlz=1C1CHMO_en-GBIE572IE573&espv=2&biw=1330&bih=957&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiOyvPgmp_QAhVHIcAKHXbRCOcQ_AUIBigB to get an idea of what to look for. You should be able to find the front sensor by turning the wheels all the way right or left. The sensors are only on one side of the car as far as I can remember but I can't remember which side.

See this thread mate, http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/391608-no-bend-lighting-afs-function-fault/?fromsearch=1

I had the same fault on mine and it ended up being a faulty sensor on the front suspension used for the setting the self levelling lights and maybe other things, theres one on each corner so could maybe be anyone of these! Theres also a module under each light that can cause problems, I took mine to a VAG specialist who diagnosed and sorted it for me.

Service manual says the sensors are on the left side of the vehicle.

Thanks for answers, will check the suspension sensor. Although faulty detail is not my biggest concern at the moment. How to get lights temporary onto normal position is. Ok, fingers crossed, hopefully I will make at home without major problems.

Home, alive :)

Everything was normal in the morning. During the day, warning light went on and off randomly several times. Specially, when I did sharp right turns. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. So the fault is not permanent, probably some loose connection.

In the evening the lights were again in emergency position. One refuel stop and everything was fine again after a little break.

Strange symptoms:

- lights do their "dance" despite being on ON position, not AUTO

- low beam is like what it is supposed to be: not too short anymore and forest on both sides of the road lightened up. Perfect, although faulty.

- the same goes for high beam.

Seems, faulty is not the AFS module, but levelling module.

Service on Wednesday.

Thanks for everyone for help!

Mine was exactly the same as this until it finally decided to give up for good!

The AFS and self leveling module are the same thing.

There is the main control module and then a headlight control module on each headlight.

You'll know more once it's been scanned but it's likely to be either a faulty level sensor or water ingress on one of the headlights control modules. The main AFS module is probably fine :-)

It was back levelling module. Going to change it next week when 180 000 km service.

Besides faults found: DSG thermostat faulty and flywheel needs to be changed.

All parts including service cost 2100 euros. Which makes mestrongly  think, will the next car be VAG one or not.

Modern cars with plenty of conveniences have lots more to go wrong and plenty of the parts can and do fail without you having much chance to claim on warranty unless you buy new (Which is almost always more expensive than a second hand car with the odd reliability issue). Every modern diesel has EGR and since the EGR valves are usually made by third parties for car manufacturers, it doesn't matter what you buy. Just because failures are rare, as in the case of EGR faults - they should be a lot rarer of course - doesn't guarantee that your car won't be the one that happens to have the issue unfortunately :( . Price the work at an independent garage too - if the dealer isn't willing to contribute anything towards this then you might be able to knock a few hundred Euro off it that way. If you tell the dealer you're going to an independent because dealer servicing is clearly not giving you any good will benefit when known issues arise they might also drop their price to keep your business.

Does your car not have a 3 year warranty?

Dave

He may have 3 years on the warranty but he is over the 150,000 kilometre warranty limit.

Your point is still good though in the sense that it is a young car. Provided the servicing record is in order and the car hasn't been abused - Linni should push hard for cover and/or a huge slice of goodwill.

We have warranty 3 years or 120 000 kilometers.

Unfortunately mine has done 180 000 kilometers already.

There is nothing really to push, but my dealer is quite understanding and I think some decent discount will be provided. They definitely want me to buy next car from them, not from Ford what I have mentioned :)
