Well worth a try at that price

So, I fitted these with ease and first impressions are great. Will advise after a long run over the next week if there are any issues.

I've had the Wiper-Blade-refills Bosch Aerotwin refill blades on the Civic for about 18 months now and they've been excellent - really can't fault them for the money.

Then try this, you might never need to buy complete new blades ever again!

Wow, and I thought I was being miserly  :notme:

Mr Bosch sent me a stern email when I asked why they didn't produce refills and save customers from throwing away the whole wiper arm every time the rubber wore out.

"The Aerotwin wiper blade end caps are single use at time of manufacture, they form an important part of the wiper blade structural rigidity. They are not designed to be removed. An attempt at removal could damage the end cap, put the twin steel rails out of alignment and reduce the performance.

The end caps are a manufacturing component, specific for a particular Aerotwin range, and are not available as a spare part.

The way these units are manufactured , heat & pressure formed , this range is not suitable to have refill inserts fitted."

So deliberately designed to prevent people from extending their usable life by replacing the inserts!?

It's not like your going to break the bank paying £8-£10 over the price of the refills for a set of new blades. They will also work and clear windscreen properly, which the refills are unlikely to do if not fitted correctly.

That is total *******s...   having taken the Civic ones apart they are easy to split, pretty robust and VERY suitable for refills!

If not fitted correctly???   jeez - it's remove an end cap, slide the old one out and slide a new one in for gods sake - it's not brain surgery!

Nope - not at all - just deliberately trying to put people off replacing them with an OTT email...

The replacement rubber inserts cost me less than $NZ 20 including shipping from the UK. Retail for the Aerotwin wipers is $NZ 85. Fitting was simple, performance is perfect and I helped the environment by not throwing out the old arms.

Hi,

Given the cost of replacement wipers I am considering trying refills for my wipers. Has anyone tried this with the Aerotwins before?

They look easy to refill, so the concern would be that the non-Bosch refill is crap.

Cheers

Hi Matt,

I bought these around 8 months ago and I can confirm they're excellent quality and VFM.

Cheers... Rob

I agree... utter bull****e! Took all of 1 minute a blade to empty and refill with new rubber....

How long will they last compared to official Bosch wiper rubbers though??? I usually only have to replace Bosch AeroTwin wipers every two to three years before they start to smear or judder on motorways etc... so at £22 a pair delivered / collected (or only £7 more than these refills) for the Superb that's not too bad. (The one's on my Superb are currently two and a half years old).

You can get non Bosch made aero wipers at a similar low price to these refills but obviously not the same Bosch quality.

I have been using refills from WAS24 for the last 8 years or so. Used on a Volvo V50, a Skoda Octavia 2FL and now the Yeti.  Never had any problems with changing these wiper rubbers.
But I have experienced that Bosch does not use stainless steel in the stiffener rails, so they will corrode over time.
I am planning to replace the Bosch wipers with some alternative ones that use stainless steel, hoping these will last the lifetime of the car.
I always use screenwash with a high level of isopropanol so this could be the cause of the corroding rails.

The dealers sell the insert at reasonable money decent quality

UPDATE.

After a long Xmas road trip I have to report that although the new refills are wiping well, they are a little squeaky on the last wipe or two (as the screen gets dry). The Bosch ones don't do this, so if you think it will annoy you, you might want to reconsider my advice!

Happy new year!

Any recommendation for the rear window? It seems like regardless of what brand I use, it is more or less useless after a couple months.

That's all the grit being chucked up :(

I just keep trying to wipe it regularly and clean with IPA.

Agreed. You need to clean the rear blade frequently.

The wiper refills I used will work on the rear wiper too AFAIK, but the full Bosch replacement blade is reasonably priced (got mine on eBay from Europe).
