Drivers seat movement and phantom front PDC warnings

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've a 2016 Style model and notice I've a slight movement in the drivers seat (seat, not backrest) when driving at normal speeds (you can hear a slight "click" when it happens). I've taken it back to the dealer who, surprise surprise, can feel anything but then again when tested it was driven like it was on a racetrack rather than normal speed. As these are electric seats I was told that it is less likely for there to be any movement due to the seat being on a screw type mechanism. Anyone else have this problem or am I the only one? If anyone has, did you get it fixed?

I've also got phantom warnings coming from the front park distance control system when sitting in traffic, what happens is traffic pulls off, I start to move and say, maybe 5 seconds later, the warning goes off that I'm very close to the car in front but I'm not near anything? Again, anyone else experience this?

Cheers

I have both... i have a "click" in my drivers seat when im taking a sharpish left had turn, it feels likes is the right hand base seat bolster flexing .  http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/413327-driver-seat-problem/

In regards to the PDC warnings, i have had this a few times in traffic when the car in front is miles away and it lights up RED like something is 1 inch from the front bumper and then clears a second or so later... its not even the same sensor that does it.

Its not to the point of me taking it back to the dealer though.. yet...

I've got the  phantom PDC warnings too. It happens when I'm in traffic but, as you say RickTT, I'm nowhere near the in front or behind. Odd, isn't it.  :(

It's a strange one alright, my worry is that it will set off the auto breaking system thinking you're about to hit something when pulling off.

RickTT, don't think that I have the same problem with the seat as mine "clicks" on both sides, if I turn left it clicks and will only click again if I turn right (and vice verse).

Going to have to get it sorted as it feels like the seat itself is moving slightly.

I have the same problem with the driver seat. It clicks when changing left direction from left to right and then from right to left. Also when braking and turning left seems to move a little bit forward and right. All of this a low speed and usual driving. If I start taking sharp corner it appears rarely. I took it to the dealer - one of first told me that that the way how they do. I don't really but it and I go to another dealer. That one told me that it is a problem but recommend me to wait until movement became accentuated so it can see it better. As I don't have to much  time and I don't want to leave the car in service, yet, I'm waiting till this movement will be more accentuated.

Car is MY 2017, 1.4 TSI - driver electric seat. - about 3000 km.

Anyone fixed the problem?

I got the phantom warnings a couple of times too. Last time I was behind a bus, I suppose the big exhausts from the bus fooled the sensors? Those sensors are ultrasonic system so it kinds make sense. Auto-braking is from the radar (radio?) sensor (same sensor used for ACC) no?

Autobraking use radar system in front. It is microwaved based (5 GHz if I don't mistake) and does have to do with ultrasonic sensors used for parking.. They may be fooled by debris/dust flying in the air (ultrasonic ones) and also by the temperature of the air. Speed of the sounds depends on the air temperature. Those sensors works by sending a beam sound and counting till it receives back. Then it know the speed of sound and find the distance.

I'm on my mobile so can't see your location in your profile..

But you mention km... You in a lhd car ?

If lhd cars means left hand car is yes - it is a lhd car. I'm fron Romania, not Uk.

I get it quite often in traffic, from the front sensors mostly. I wonder if the ultrasonic emissions from nearby cars with similar sensors can spook the system and create spurious warnings?

Because my car has park assist it can scan 360º around the car, I also get warnings down the sides of the car when there's nothing there. Again, could external emissions be spooking it a little?

Maybe a software fix will appear in the future? They seem to be slowly rolling out fixes for bugs like the misbehaving Virtual Pedal.

Did anybody else have the problem with the seat movement/clicking or know how to fix it?

Dealer says they can't feel it, I feel it AND hear it every time I turn and it's driving me insane!

Please help!!

Front radar is usually 75GHz as it needs the shorter wavelength to maintain distance - resolution is a a few Centimetres.  5GHz is reserved (in Europe) for Industrial/Scientific/Medical services including wifi so the interference risk is too high for vehicle 'safety' systems.

I have had mine react to things well over 100 metres away as well as low flying pigeons crossing in front of me!
