New to Briskoda... Looking for Octavia tips!

Just a thought - is the boot lip/spoiler standard or an extra?

standard...

Be aware of what rev range your turbo kicks in at, it is not fun when you know there is a speed camera coming up so you slow and drop gear only for the rev range to be just about where the turbo kicks in :p

In a similar vein... I nearly got clocked by a speed camera with my MK2 manual because I slowed down on the approach to it and intended to put it in 3rd but did 1st by accident. The acceleration was far more than I was expecting, having selected the wrong gear! :P

The blocks are inside the front suspension units and significantly reduce the suspension travel for transport from the factory. They are brightly coloured plastic blocks clipped to the damper tube. There may be 2 or 3 per side. Unfortunately you cannot see them just by looking in the wheel arch as there is a plastic cover on the damper. You have to jack up the front of the car to allow the suspension to fully extend. If the blocks are there it will be obvious and you just wrestle the them out, no tools required. My car was 2 years old when I got it and still had them in, how the previous owner didn't complain about the ride I will never know. I complained to the dealer that did the original PDI and they were very ashamed and apologetic. When i removed the blocks the ride was transformed.

Had a quick look today and cant see anything between the coils of the spring or any thing clipped to the damper tube, only this small plastic clip but I presume that's for holding the plastic gator in position when the suspension is in its normal position and not extended..?

Yes, that's a normal clip. The transport blocks are bright orange or pink and each about 1" thick, you can't mistake them. The remaining firm ride is now down to the design, I'm afraid! I see you have the VRS, this has the larger wheels and low profile tyres which don't help the ride.

Thanks mate you've been a big help.

Cheers

Absolutely loving it so far! Surprisingly the salesman told me I don't need to run it in and in the manual it just says not to exceed 3/4 of the maximum revs for 1km...

That looks stunning, good luck keeping it clean though  :p

Not even a week of driving and its filthy! Need a magic coating to keep it clean, anyone know a Wizzard?

I love black cars, but boy are they a nightmare to keep clean. They also end up with heavy swirling due to frequent washing, if it's the standard bucket and sponge wash. What I do now is this. From new, detail the car or have it done by a pro, and apply or have them apply a good paint sealer.

Buy a snowfoam lance for the pressure washer, and simply snowfoam the car and then rinse with the pressure washer. I only take a wash mitt to the windows and a sponge to the wheels. I do not touch the paint over winter.

Car then gets detailed in spring, and again in autumn ready for the next winter. If you stay on top of it, with snowfoam and rinse it will prevent swirling, and at least the car looks clean, even if not exactly gleaming.

Good shout! I'll have to give that a go!
