Heated windscreen

Featured Replies

Anyone wondering if the optional windscreen is worth it...

It's a must IMO. From this to this in a minute

We do not have auxiliary as an option in the uk. I have had the heated front windscreen for nearly five years with no issues and agree with the OP.

Its useful...  but dont think its worth it, reason is you still need to de-ice all the side windows, so an extra 30 seconds doing the front is no big deal in my opinion.

I have also ordered heated front windscreen, because auxiliary heating is to expensive... around 800€... as soon as I got the car I will test it if its working with my htc :)

I have it - in my opinion it is worth it.

Absolute must, especially if you do early starts, best feature in my car (with the heated Seats! !) ;-)

I regret not speccing it :/

i was wishing my golf .:R32 had a heated windscreen at 02.30 this morning!

looking forward to my L&K turning up next month, can't wait!

At least they have solved the issue I had with a Ford. They have a very fine grid of wires that are visible, especially if the sun is low.

I've spec'd one on mine.  My wife's Fiesta has one and we've had them on Fords we've owned in the past; great bit of kit and the first thing I went for on the options list.

I have it, find it great. If just for the fact you don't have to have the blowers set to 'ultra death kill max upwards' when it gets a bit condensationy.

Never had it but oh so want it!!

This is my second Superb with a heated screen, a must if you ask me. I added one to SWMBO's Yeti and she won't be without it now. I can see why Ford drivers have been so smug for all those years now.

My Mk2 had a heated screen with the fine wire elements running through it. My Mk3 L&K uses a thin metallic layer which eliminates the 'starburst' effect you got from the old type.

Even after 80,000 miles I found it distracting at night, especially on lit sections of motorway.

I've also specced it on my Superb3, but more for the "IR Coating" properties, than for the heated windscreen properties.

Really hate driving West, with the sun full glowing in the afernoon in the windscreen, when you get hot on your torso. Hope the IR coating will fix this and is not just a marketing scam.

Next summer will know for sure :)

Have just replaced our six year old Mondeo with a Superb mkIII. The Mondeo was the first car we had with a heated windscreen and it was brilliant. Added it to the Superb and would always add it to cars in the future if it's an option.

Much quicker getaway on cold mornings, plus - probably more importantly - fantastic on occasions where the windscreen tends to mist up while driving (eg in the rain). Clears it faster than any other climate control settings.

I've had Mondeo's for the past 10 years and the heated front windscreens were brilliant. Now had my Superb III SE-L Exec for 5 weeks. Brilliant car but no heated front windscreen - buying v. slightly used saves a shedload of money but you can't sometimes get the car with all you want. I really miss the windscreen, particularly today with temperatures below zero. So if anyone has the chance to spec then do so. You won't regret it.

I agree with SandalSteve. I alos have it on my series III L & K 4x4 estate. I also have the auxiliary heating option which is available in Italy. I have a lot of early starts and the auxiliary heating is great. Just press the remote 30 minutes before departure (or you can program it to start at a specific time)  and you have a nice warm car to get into and a heated engine. Makes a slight noise though. A sort of low level hum. So is my heated screen a waste of money?  No. If I'm away on a trip, and do not have the car within the remote range, at a hotel for example, the heated screen is wonderful. Clears everything in about a minute whilst you use the ice scraper, or de-icer spray, to clear the other windows. IMHO worth every penny.
