Roof bars to carry 2 adult and 1 kids bike?

Featured Replies

Oldest daughter is just getting to the age we can head out on bike trips so looking at transport options.

Any thoughts or recommendations on carrying bikes on my O3 vrs estate or the wifes O3 scout - neither has tow bar, and i don't fancy trying to hang the bikes of the back window if this is possible. I'm also thinking about getting the xmas tree using roof bars if i sort it soon  :notme:

What would i need in terms of roof bars / bike holders (i know nothing about this).

Also do roof bar 'clamps' damage or mark the roof rails?

Tap your car details into here and there's a good selection of models and prices.

I've just taken an O3 as its one of the very few with an 80kg or so roof rack limit.  I'm using it as a support car for a cycling team.  A couple of companies make full racks for 7-8 bikes and the octavia is one of the few cars that will take the weight, the others were the volvo, citroen and an audi as well as passat so very few.

To answer your question for the fitted bars you need a pair of cross members and then what ever individual bike racks to fit on the cross bars.  If your going for a good robust solid system then id always go thule.  Used thule before for racks of up to 4 bikes as well as theyre tow ball mounted rack and theyre products always ooze quality which is reassuring.  hope this info helps.

Roof bars to carry 2 adult and 1 kids bike?

How will the adults fit on the roof?

i have OEM bars and Thule Pro Ride carriers. Plenty of space for two adult bikes and a kiddie bike. The thule carriers are great and will take a full size adult bike or a kids bike, lots of adjustment.

The bars have a rubber insert so they don't damage the roof rails.

Second that.

I have kept the Thule roof bars which I used on my previous Audi B7 RS4 Avant along with a Thule roof box - the same wing bars are recommended for the Octavia 3 Combi; and are a perfect fit.

Does anyone have any experience / comments on the advantages of Thule foot pack 775 vs 757? Relevant to estate only, and I have a sunroof... thanks. See https://roofracks.co.uk/Thule-Fit-Guide/_-/?make=Skoda&model=Octavia&version=III&type=5-door-Estate&rails=with-roof-rails&modelYear=2013-plus&id=33

In the link it claims:

The Thule 775 sits 2.5 cm lower on the roof compared to the 757 foot pack, thus reducing the height of the load. In most cases this will also reduce drag and wind noise.

Thanks Dave. I'm after (but did not make it clear) views on comparative ease of fitting and removal, and possibly security of the 775 (has wire inserts but not sure how strong these may be), ta

OK, no worries.

I can't comment on either the 757 or 775 as I have the Wing Bar Edge (Option D) because I wanted the lowest possible profile to avoid any issues on EuroTunnel.

i know this is a hatchback and the feet are different but i have the standard thule square bars and the thule freeride 530 bike carriers, ive had these for several years now and done hundreds of miles with them. They have been superceeded now with the the freeride 532, they are reasonably priced good solid bits of kit and adjust very easily to fit many bikes.

you can also get the locks matched so the feet and bike carriers all operate with one key which makes life simpler.

Thanks for all the replies, didn't know how much i can expect to put on the roof.

Seems a consensus on Thule bars, feet and carriers - i know theres possibly cheaper options about but as they say " I'm not a rich man, so i buy the best "
