De-catting Furby VRS

Featured Replies

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to decat a vrs, ive been told by an MOT tester that it will still pass the emision test without the cat????

Advantages - imagine the exhaust a little like an artery.... Then start to think about mild heart disease symptoms. Always best to clear the slight blockage which is slowing down flow. ;)

And yes, they do pass MOT fine. Mine has passed twice decatted now - last time with flying colours. Tester didn't even know. :)

Is there any increase in Standard BHP, plan to do the exhaust then a have a long drive down to Jabba for a remap, long way from Cumbria but worth it

It'll be very minor if any at all. :D Are you looking to replace the whole system or just remove the cat from the existing system?

Full system, replace with Stainless

I thought the tdi lumps needed a little back pressure to help the turbo in operation, so removing the cat all together was a bad idea on PD 130's.

I could of course be wrong, but it's what I picked up on talking to a few bod's "in the know"

A full system might see you slight gains then as the stock one is restrictive, but don't expect a massive change :D

Chris

The guys over on TDiclub say dont expect big gains if any from a full system even if you go for a straight through system. But it does help to reduce the EGT temps.

Over on SCN I read that some back pressure is needed but over on TDIclub they reckon the turbo makes enough back pressure. Still I reckon with a full system you'll get 1-3bhp increase depending on the dyno lottery ;)

My long term plan is a stainless exhaust. no cat, no middle silencer, probably no backbox either. 2.75" pipe from DP to tail. :D

I've asked this on tdiclub - and apparently enough pressure is generated by the turbo or something, and all the exhaust needs to do is get that gas outta there as efficiently as possible. :)

Not going for that side exit ;)

Jason, when I was a kid we had a JCB with a broken exhaust, wont the fabia sound the same with a straight through pipe ?? i.e. stupidly noisy (in a bad way)

I believe that JCB didn't have turbo? That silences enough :D

Not sure if it did or not - I was about 8 at the time ;) I use the term JCB loosly too, it was atcually a "CASE"

Loud pipes saves lives

I'm with Phil - amplifying the sound of a diesel engine is not nice! :(

Chris

Still a JCB is fairly musical, have you not heard the JCB song yet?!

Well, as always with me, I'm only thinking of a straight thru stainless pipe to save money on exhaust fittings. ;)

Not going for that side exit, no. ;):D

You could save even more money by leaving the exhaust as it is ;):P:rofl:

Adding a full Milltek on mine produced a RR gain of 8 bhp. So at over

Love it.

You know Jason though, he has to fiddle with everything. I reckon he will mod the car so much that one day he will take a few steps back and say "oh god I turned it into a micra"

he will take a few steps back and say "oh god I turned it into a micra"

:finger: Don't insult the Micra. They're not bad cars now. :D Mine will be much much worse.

Although being serious the visual side of the car is unlikely to alter at all. :) I like the wheels, like the suspension, like the small bodywork changes... No more to do,

needs vertical black slats over the FMIC rather than the mesh ;)

I agree. The MOT test doesn't test for "emissions" like it does with a petrol engine, it just checks for smoke emission Parts per million (How much smoke).

I agree. I think the rest of the car looks the nuts but the mesh on the front really isn't to my taste :)

Each to their own though...
