I got a free phone upgrade....

Featured Replies

I went on line on "that" Friday, and ended up with an Iphone 5S, because it was free.  I have a Samsung android one which worked when it felt like it and bluetoothed to the car no problem. Of course, the Iphone doesn't. I had my number ported over to the new one too.

What are my options for the Samsung ? Get a payg sim and divert any calls from the Iphone during the time I'm in the car or be phone free when driving which isn't really what I want as I bought it to be in contact with the office etc. Car's an Octavia vRS FL with maxidot but that's probably irrelevant really.

Anyone else done something unintentionally daft ?

The iPhone should connect. Bluetooth is a standard across all platforms, so shouldn't have compatibility issues.

What part isn't working? :)

Have you changed the air in between the car and the phone? Only asking as I read that denser air can affect Bluetooth connectivity.

That depends which Bluetooth profile the car is trying to use.

Some cars use rSAP which iPhones don't support. If this is the case, the BT module will need replacing with one that supports HFP.

That's what I was thinking might be the case. I'll try again tomorrow to see if it finds the Iphone before I do anything else.

I know where this is heading...cheeky burger.

Check that the car unit has space to accept another BT pairing; I had to delete a couple of old pairings a few days ago, as mine had run out of space and wouldnt pair with my new phone.

And yeah, iPhones use a strange variation of BT, that not everything works with.

iPhones connect fine to an Octavia III bluetooth (I've got an iPhone 7+ and had a 6+ and a 5 beforehand), don't know about Octavia Is or IIs though...

Is the issue pairing? Or has it paired and not work?

Even if you have as Rasp module it will still work in HFP to give phone and media streaming.

Pairing seems to be a difficult task with iPhone and VAG car kit modules for some reason.

Options are either make your iPhone visible and let the car find it, or make the car visible and let your iPhone find that.

It does work, it's just not that easy with iOS for some reason.

Reconnected it today and made sure the iphone was looking for a bluetooth connection in the car and after messing with the access code 0000 and not 1234 it now works. Codes can be jolly annoying!

I love how the "security" codes are nearly all hard wired to 0000 or 1234, so very, VERY secure.
