DSG Problem

Featured Replies

Got my Superb 2L TDI 170BHP  in June of this year, previous auto's were the usual 'slush' boxes so I thought that the jerky changes I was experiencing were down to me not being used to the DSG box. However things didn't improve so I went back to the dealers (not a Skoda dealer) - they had a diagnostic done on the car and said there where no faults. Long story short an oil change solved the problem - smooth gear changes etc. I might had that the gearbox oil was supposed to have been changed (according to the service record) at approx 40 000 miles and the problems I had were at 57 000 miles. The car has now done 65 000 miles and I am now having problems when reversing uphill, the gearbox keeps jumping out of gear and, additionally, whilst it takes up drive from a standstill it isn't that smooth  although it doesn't jump out of gear, other than these problems all seems alright - any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

When the DSG oil was changed the garage should have done a DSG calibration.

Either find someone with VCDS and follow the instructions exactly or a good garage that will carry it out.

If that doesn't fix it then your mechatronics unit could be shagged and that's expensive.

But at least you'll know... maybe part ex time.

There is a procedure to reset DSG box:

VERSION 1

1 Put your key in the ignition and turn ignition to the on position (don't start the engine!)

2 Hold down the gas pedal pressing the button under the pedal for at least 20 seconds.

3 Let foot off pedal and start car. Be sure that you do not turn ignition off because that will void the reset

(not so sure it still works)

VERSION 2

a. put key in ignition and turn key to the position just before cranking

b. hold down the accelerator for 10s

c. let go of accelerator and turn key back to Off before turning it back to the position before cranking

If the reset is successful you will hear some shifting mechanical sounds for about 1 to 2s from the gearbox.

Gents,

Thanks for the information and suggestions.

Quite sure the DSG wasn't recalibrated when the oil was changed; had it changed by an indie and despite being very competent (ex Mercedes mechanic) I'm sure he hasn't got a VCDS unit.

I've tried the version 2 reset for now, it does seem better; unless my mind is playing tricks on me, time will tell.

There isn't time to organise anything this side of Christmas and the New Year but at least my problems (hopefully resolved by the reset) are only minor - I'll provide an update in the New Year.

Get it done properly with VCDS the difference it made to mine was very noticeable indeed but I never had jumping out of gear but I did have jerky down changes :D

I had DSG on my previous Passat CC and every time I had it serviced (18k miles on variable) I asked the dealer to do a DSG factory reset which smoothed it out, the DSG oil was changed at the recommended intervals, so every other service. Never had it jump out of gear.

My wife had a 2014 Octavia DSG and that was silky smooth, much better than my CC DSG box, but then one was 6 speed wet and the other 7 speed dry.
