Bleeding Brakes - caution !

Featured Replies

:finger: This months Car Mechanics (Feb) has a story on bleeding the brakes on the Octavia, and says that when you try to pump the pressure back up after changing the fluid, you find that you carn't, as a seal gets damaged in the master cylinder ! You have to buy a new master cylinder as there is probably a burr inside which damages the seals when the piston goes its full travel inside.

Not come accross it on Octavias myself but then I use a pressure bleeding system at work.

Used to happen loads on Vauxhalls years ago though after pushing the pistons back in the caliper.

I've heard of it on the Mk4 golf which I assume is basically the same.

folds the seal over doesn't it?i have heard bill of badger 5 and ross talking about it iirc, very dubious of doing mine myself now, rather pay a few quid to get the dealer to do it,let them sweat over it.

what does the haynes manual say on the matter?? oh yes i forgot, there isn't one is there :)
