Amundsen 8 inch

Featured Replies

Anybody actually seen the Amundsen 8 in in the flash and had any experience of using it? Im thinking of getting a Sportline to replace my 2015 Superb 170 which in Ireland doesn't come with any sat nav as standard - Amundsen is 400 quid versus 1500 for Columbus so Im thinking of spec'ing the new 8in Amundsen and also spec'ing the Traffic Sign option as that gets me the camera for less than 100 quid which I think will allow me to VDCS a few other goodies?

Any thoughts?

I would do the same as you, and save the 1100 quid by not opting for the Columbus. Yes, you might be loosing a few options or gadgets, but an 8" Amundsen with TSR is not a bad deal. And as you mentioned, if you have the camera, High Beam Assist and Lane Assist can be coded with VCDS afterwards.

I had the 8 inch Amundsen on my demonstrator for a few days. The screen is very easy to use and read. You day and night and does not dazzle after dark. Touchscreen works well from both front seats which is more than can be said for some manufacturers.

My fleet manager said that the extra cost for the upgrade to Columbus was not a problem but I decided to take the basic system and put the budget else where in the vehicle.

Thanks for the input - I think thats my mind made up. I will have Smart Link too if I get stuck though. I must say I like the fact that Skoda has kept the screen in the dash rather than following the fashion to stick another screen on top of the dash too. Traffic Sign is 60 quid extra as long as I have one of the sat nav systems so it will be a real bonus to enable Lane Assist and High Beam Assist too

I have SmarkLink and traffic signs on my kit list with the car to be built in mid January.

Worth mentioning that some lease companies will kit allow SmartLink due to privacy reasons.

Smart-Link is standard fit on all Irish Skoda's now - Ive used it on an Octavia Ive use of and pairing with an iphone I have mixed feelings, e.g. you cant connect via Smartlink and Bluetooth at the same time (or at least I couldnt make it work) so I lost steering wheel phone controls when I had my phone's navigation connected to Smartlink

as a question is that a separate Bluetooth device as i was hoping to have android auto for my S5 for music and Waze (when it launches) and Bluetooth voice for my workphone, your post suggests you cant.

If you are connected via Smart Link, you can use the Google phone interface..

If you are still connected to smart link, you can also press the "PHONE" button in the left of the infotainment system and still make a call that way too.

Also, you can have 2 mobiles paired via Bluetooth at the same time.

Yeah that right - I think your plan to have two devices attached all the time is the best option - one going into Smartlink and then your day to day phone via bluetooth

Hi guys,

What maps are used in  Amundsen 8'' system?? same as Columbus or its some different brand/maps ? I did the same think Casati, 1500e its a overkill for satnav especially whe both systems are 8inch now. So Amundsen going to my Sportline too.
