1.9 TDI ASV - Air filter options

Featured Replies

Hello all ,

The purists will say why bother and wont make any difference etc , but I want to get rid of the huge air box and install a Induction kit/filter on our ASV Tdi 110bhp 2003 53 reg Lauren and Klement -

Rather than paying upwards of £70+ for a kit , want to get the parts myself but what size are the MAFs on these usually ? are these cars as easy as they look , remove air box and stick a filter onto the end of the maf ? is there any hidden pipes in the airbox etc ?

cheers

Unless you pipe cold air to the filter & put a heat shield around it you'll actually be losing performance. Sucking hot air in from the engine bay isn't good.

In fairness he has addressed this point in his post, so he's surely well aware :)

On my vrs I have a 3" cone filter stuck straight onto the end of maf with a small extension alloy pipe. It is that simple honestly, the only complication is that you need to attach the whole assembly to something so it doesn't rattle.

IIRC the tdi is a 2.5 or 2.75" MAF but I can't remember.

edit: I put the cone filter on because the previous owner fitted a "CAI" and I didn't want my filter 1 inch off the floor where it can suck up puddles.

I've got an S2K filter on mine. Sounds nice.

Hope these help? Sorry for late reply again.

It's a 12 year old diesel...

Seriously why bother?

Service it or wash it instead dont waste the money on a pointless add on.

It's called personal preference, we don't have to all follow the crowd and be boring.
