Matterhorn Alloy Repair?

Hey guys,

 

Have a quick question regarding repairing the wheels on my Yeti. I slightly scuffed one on a kerb yesterday, and there is pretty significant aesthetic damage to another one which was there when I purchased the car. My question is what are the boundaries for repairs to alloys? The minor scuff is on the black, and the more significant damage is around the edge of the alloy (on the sliver bits, see image below), is it possible to repair that?

 

I can imagine it's probably more difficult to repair alloys like these and opposed to the standard sliver/greyish ones that are standard.

The "black bits" are paint. Having said that, really need to see photos of the damage to make informed comments.

Scuffing and chipping like that is repairable yes. It's not like you've taken a bite out of the rim bead.

My wife’s 2014 Yeti has Matterhorn alloys fitted and they’re getting a bit shabby. There are quite a number if areas where water has got under the laquer and it’s corroding. Skoda said it’s stone chips, it’s quite obviously not, it appears to be the laquer not adhering very well on the sharp diamond cut edge. The car rarely sees over 40 mph and has only done 40k miles and doesn’t have a stone chip anywhere else.

 

Anyhow SWMBO managed to slightly kerb one for the first time last week (good going really). I’ve considered trying to sort it myself, or via a mobile service but feel that a proper refurb / diamond cut of all the wheels may be in order. 
 

 My concern is that the black is if I remember correctly is black magic pearlescent paint and is like to keep it near original. I see there’s a couple of places that do this in the West Midlands where you get temporary wheels when they refurb yours.

 

Just wondering if anyone has had good / bad experiences with this, any recommendations and if it’s just my wife’s Matterhorn alloys that are poor?

 

I would add that diamond cut wheels look great when new but appear to be PITA when a bit older.

 

PS it needs new Skoda centre caps as the white worms eating them too.

The diamond cut finish is known to be problematic for looking after curb rash in all brand of cars so you are not alone. Many on here have had them refurbished in one colour to help protect them. If you plan to keep the car is consider that route. If you want to keep it stock looking for resale value then maybe look around to see if any cars local to you have curb rash or refurbished wheels. And if refurbed, are they original look or one colour.
