Hi all,

 

I am considering purchasing a new 3 door Citigo SE-L but a little confused and would be grateful for some advice.

 

Here are some of my questions:

 

1) Is the 75bhp engine worth the extra money over the 60 BHP ? 

 

2) Is Greentech worth spec'ing ? Is there any real benefit ?

 

3) Looking at the Skoda website configurator and the Citigo brochure, there are very few options. For example, I have seen talk of Style Packs on the forum but there do not appear to be any available. Is this correct or some Skoda error ?

 

4) There only appear to be two options of alloys for the SE-L; Black Auriga and Silver Serpens. I quite like the look of the black alloys in the photo below but although it is shown on the Skoda website, it is not an option, even for the Monte Carlo which they show in the brochure !  Is there a way to spec these ?

1. I drove the 60bhp engine for a couple of years and was completely happy with it - both in town and on the motorway. Many say that the 75bhp is not much different, maybe very slightly more powerful in the higher revs but probably not noticeable in the real world. I would choose the 60bhp engine again.

 

2. The Greentech model has stop/start which is nice, but only useful if you drive in urban environments where you stop frequently at traffic lights etc.. One big advantage for me is that you get a beefed up battery which stays connected all the time when the ignition is on. This has implications for your mobile phone, for example, which connects via bluetooth and doesn't disconnect when you go from ignition on to engine start. The other thing is that the suspension is slightly lower than the non-Greentech model and you get tyres designed for more economic driving. The setup is similar to the sports model. It feel nicely taut on the road. When I bought my Citigo stop/start meant that the CO2 emissions took the car below the threshold for free road tax.

 

Personally I would go for 60bhp and Greentech - if that combination is  possible in the current line-up.

It's easy to be confused, there have been a few spec changes and range updates.  I own a 75 greentech, it's the only citigo I've owned though.

 

1) Depends. For me yes. Essentially once past 4k the 75 keeps going, for a bit. I live in a hilly area, the extra umph helps keep me going. Especially as I tend to have a boot full of ropes/metal work, roughly equiv to 2 people.

 

2) Greentech gets your co2 down, so mine is presently a zero road fund car. This is set to change by the goverment. It works and in heavy stopped traffic helps to cut consumption. The only negative for me is, it's terrifying. I frequently pull over and have a 15 min nap, nice layby and view, pull over have a snack. When greentec is on, the car stops the engine.. I forget this... drift off. Then 15mins or so later the dam thing starts up and typically scares the heck out of me from my peaceful nap...

 

3) If you're looking at a build to order new then the only available options are those on the configuration tool on the day you order. Last year the configuration and factory order system differed too... 

 

4) I don't think so now. But then I run steel wheels all year so wheels are not my strong card.

Based on your feedback, maybe a greentech 60bhp engine might be a good choice.

 

As regards the options, it sounds like the dealer's system may (or may not) have a few more options to choose from.

 

Thanks for the tip on the quote tool you put together. I have already looked at that. Looks good but only one dealer has quoted.

 

Finally, I am aware the road tax rules and charges are changing in April this year. Do you know, if your car qualifies for free Road tax (or £20 pa) today, will you automatically have to pay the new rate when the renewal comes up after April or will it stay the same ?

The dealer quote is the only one; so far, who will join in on cash/finance. I have others very soon for pch etc, these have to be done manually. I've got a white board full of notes from this week that I need to build :D

 

I also noted today that somehow I missed off a couple of 3 door options... 

 

greentec 60 should be absolutely fine, not a patch on the lupo mind.. are you keeping that pocket rocket too?

The service you have built is excellent but it is very much like Carwow although their one allows dealers to automate their quotes and therefore not as personalised initially as yours.

Unfortunately I have had to sell the little Lupo GTi to free up funds for the Citigo. That and the fact I already own another 3 cars means running costs would be too high to run 5 cars. The wife would also probably divorce me ;)

It's a shame as I loved the little Loop.

As regards the Greentech, it's great it doesn't affect performance in exchange for lower emissions and road tax but I have read on here that the lower suspension can be a little crashy and not as smooth as the standard suspension. Is there a significant difference in the ride quality ?

If you buy and register a car before April then the zero VED will be valid for future years as things stand.

Any advice on teh Greentech suspension ?

I haven't driven any other Citigos but IMHO the Greentech lowered suspension combined with 14" Bridgestone Ecopia tyres makes for quite a compliant and comfortable ride, compared to other cars that I have owned or driven.

Tyres can make difference and a Greentech on 15" wheels with stiff tyres could well be a different proposition.

Lowered does not necessarily equate to firmer. ;)

Mrs CB40 has a 2012 elegance on 14inch wheels and the ride is very soft and compliant

I have a 2016 'facelift' elegance on the 15 inch wheels and rde is definitely firmer but not crashy and harsh like my 2012 fabia monte carlo

My greentech is firm not crashy suspension. The short wheelbase makes it a choppy ride. I need to slow to 10mph over speed humps, otherwise the front splitter grounds out. It is fun around the twisty roads, like a go cart.
