Yeti L&K no longer available to order

Featured Replies

VAG indicated that there would be a rationalising of platforms so the Yeti's certainly wouldn't be unique.

Audi's Q series would be a guide to sizes I would think

Think you've got your maths mixed up a bit there. The simspons deal works out at £5227 over the 2 years.

Thats actually quite a lot for the L&K yeti. A few months ago they were dirt cheap on lease. Around £4500 over 2 years for a 25k car. Mine works out at £4783 for the entire 2 years. The lease prices increased along with excess mileage cost on the 22nd of November last year, not sure why but i remember i was urged by Horton Skoda to order before the 22nd of Nov because they "hinted" at a price increase, and sure enough they were right.

Feeling even worse now. Especially, as my new car is coming from Hortons.

If the addage about if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is, where is the catch? What will the residual cost be if someone wants to buy after two years? Will the dealer want to take it back after pcp period over?

My deal is a 2 year lease. PCH, Not hire purchase. So I have the car for 2 years then hand it back to Skoda. I might be given the option to extend the lease on the vehicle at the end of the term.

Out of interest is the current Yeti built on a 'common platform' if so, I presume the Mk V Golf? I presume a part of the decision is linked to availability of new platforms. I totally agree that in making a car so similar in size and looks to the competition they will fall into a trap that will alienate many of their existing loyal customers (many of whom are 'oldies'). However, if their market research suggests it will give them wider access to a new more lucrative demographic it will be a good move for them. However, to do this, the car will need to be able to beat the competition on its own grounds. Certainly the Ateca seems to be doing this at the moment if the motoring media can be believed.

No, the current Yeti is built form a mix and match dip into the VAG parts bin, I believe some parts are Fabia based and others Octavia based with a smattering of other bits thrown in. In this case the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts.

I expect the new one will be based on much the same base as the Ateca etc. like most others have been saying.

Sadly I suspect they don't see us oldies as the market's styling future.

Kodiaq looks acceptable and probably an indication perhaps.

Evidently though many oldies are reasonably well off and manufacturers would be mad to ignore that segment.

As we've said before VWG are in the enviable position of having a number of marques and so could quite easily provide what many of us want i.e. a new Yeti along similar lines to the existing one with younger customers being catered for by SEAT.

A number of my younger colleagues drive Sportages, Quasquis etc. and some are still dismissive of Skoda so Skoda may not achieve the desired increase in younger customers at the expense of us oldies.

I'm also wondering how much a Yeti II is going to be to get at least the same spec as I have now and I doubt any 0% deals for some time?

Don't confuse 'platforms' (wheeelbase, track dimensions) with common parts , trim, engine etc.

There are a number of platforms which dictate dimensions and I would guess the Q3, Golf and next Yeti would share one but many of the 'parts' would be badge engineered for status division.

I'm on the revised cost deal. TBH, an extra 5-700 isn't the end of the world. It's still a far, far cheaper way of having the car for a few years. When you see 3 year old ones retailing for around £11-12k the lease is a far more attractive prospect. Taking the hit of 60% depreciation in 3 years would hurt.

Not sure where you are looking but 3 year old Yeti L&K's (if you can find one) retail at £16,500+.

The problem a lot of people are going to find is that there will be little or no retained 'value' at the end of the lease and the balloon payment to buy the car could be expensive to finance. Only option then is to go for another PCP deal, but who knows what deposit and monthly payments will be in 3 years time? Currently interest rates are near zero but as USA gradually increases the Fed rate there is every liklehood that UK interest rates will rise - note that some mortgage rates are increasing already.

As my father-in-law used to say to me "you get ow't for now't lad" - he was a canny Yorkshireman.

Having another look now, my figure was wrong, so I stand corrected! 63 plate cars seem to be around £15-16k on the approved used site. So at a guess the trade price would be around 12-13k tops.

Even if you buy with maximum discount, that's still an 8-9k drop in 3 years.

It all depends on the purchase intent though, if you are buying to keep for 5+ years, the depreciation balances out and is probably not of much concern at all. But for me, I change cars quite frequently, so when there is no real prospect of equity a lease makes far more sense.

Agreed it's horses for courses and different deals suit different circumstances. I generally buy my cars outright and keep them for 6-7 years by which time depreciation has balanced out and by my calculations I am in pocket. Selling privately - after 6-7 years the vehicle is affordable for a lot of second hand buyers in the market looking for a one owner, dealer maintained high spec car.

Unusually this time I am selling my Yeti after only 5 years but that is because I am buying a new Yeti before this version is superseded by Yeti 2. Yeti 2, I suspect, will be a close clone of the Ateca and like the host of crossovers in the market. I like the internal and external dimensions of the current Yeti and am not too bothered about the latest tech bells & whistles.

I tend to buy with a thought to resale value and where I'm often happy with the base version I end up going for one that has most of the options I want for the reason of difficulty selling it later.
