Oil Temperature

Recommended Posts

Hey guys anyone help please...

My Mk2 Fabia vRS has not been reading the Oil Temperature since I purchased last October and I've only just realised.

All it reads is --- I've had it going when driving to work which is about 20 minutes drive and by which time the Coolant Temperature sits in the middle where it should be but still no reading??

Anyhelp would be great, I have got it booked in for a health check in the 3rd February so was going to ask them to perform a ECU Update as not sure if one has ever been done since the car was manufactured back in 2010 as I've all the paperwork but it doesn't mention anything to do with any form of update.

You can go into the menu and tick what you want to display, Average Speed, Range etc & that includes Oil Temp.

Except if someone has messed up changing Fixed Servicing to Variable, then Oil Temp can get lost.

I'm sure you turn it on in the setting on the maxidot or it needs to be turned on with vagcom I've seen other people put threads up about this

I've turned it on in the maxidot but still not showing, really don't have access too vagcom and even if I did I wouldn't know where to start lol

Cheers buddy have got it clicked on, at present I have no service plan setup as was going to sort that out on the heath check, how do I change from fixed to variable in the menu and will Skoda reset it if they do carry out my services as was thinking I may do them myself...

You can not, the last technician that was setting it messed up.  I doubt Brian had Variable Servicing set.

So you need VCDS or someone to do it for you.

It is Fixed you want back to.  9,400 miles (10,000) or 372 Days.

& i would get 5w 40 FS VW502 00 in at the next service not 5w 30 FS Long Life VW 504 00

By the Health Check I mean I just want them to check out the levels for me etc and I've got some new tyres that they said there put on for me while they carry it out...also going to be sorting out a fixed service plan with them so I thought I'd just have one done while I was there.

Brian has looked after this car down to an absolute tee buddy, he sent me all the paperwork back from 9000 miles and he's looked after it and I just want to keep it as good as he did bud, wasn't implying anything

The car used to show the oil temperature as it was set to variable servicing (although serviced annually anyway) by Parks (that's another story...) - when it went to Henry's for the third service they switched it to fixed and the oil temperature disappeared.

Cheers Brian, to think of it I could have just sent you a pm . I'm only getting health check done as they said they'd carry one out and fit my new tyres for £25 all in (Bargin!) and I'm sorting out my services also at the same time

Not worth paying for a service plan.

7 Year old car, service as required to make it reliable, not Skoda UK Main dealer Servicing.

You have one of the first built cars.

If the service was done the oil is OK for 10,000 miles.

Best get them to check the exhaust brackets, the front one goes.

Do not accept stupid Skoda Dealers Quotes, it is a quick weld fix by a welder / exhaust centre job.

Do you not like the Rainsports?

Re software updates - they're done as part of dealer service (if needed) but aren't separately documented - as it was last serviced in September 2016 by Henry's it should be up to date.

George - the front exhaust bracket was replaced at MOT time by my local VAG specialist (think they charged three quid :) ).

Cheers Offski...

Brian I love the Rainsports they handle well, especially in the ****e weather we're having at present and amazing in the snow!

They should be good for many thousands of miles yet.

Wunderba,  a change from those that quote on replacing a down pipe & then maybe a Cat.  lol

David Mylett in Thornliebank - can't speak highly enough of him - trustworthy and sensible prices. Restores VW Campers - always a few in his compound.

Ahhh won't bother then, it's just that I know a 'man' who can get me 4 xPotenza RE050A for £200 but there normally £90 each, think I may just get them and keep them in the lockup

The Rainsports can only have done a few thousand.
