ignition time

Hello

How can i adjust ignition time to felicia 1997 like this video

Thanks

Hi. If you have multipoint fuel injection(MPI) on your Felicia, then you cannot, and should not need to adjust you're ignition timing, as it is controlled by the ECU of the car. If you have a Carburettor for fuel, and a distributor on your car, then do follow the instructions in this video, or buy a strobe timing lamp, and follow the instructions included with it. There are timing marks on the cover that your distributor sits in, and a notch on your crankshaft pulley( it might need cleaning up, and a dot of bright paint applying to the notch would help.). You can use a ratchet or large spanner to turn the crank pulley in a clockwise motion after you have removed the lower engine bay cover.

Thanks alot

A few observations.

The method of setting the ignition timing shown in the video has a few drawbacks:

  • It is relevant only for cars having a distributor with moving contacts. Felicia has a contactless distributor.
  • The ignition timing set with a test lamp is the static timing. This has nothing to do with the idle timing figure given in the service manual.

As described above, you need a strobe light to set the timing at idle to -2 +/- 2 degrees.

Thanks Ricardo, I didn't realise the distributor is a "contactless" unit, I should probably have guessed it though, with them having an ECU!!: my bad.
