From a Roomster to Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Currently I'm the proud owner of a 2007 Roomster 1.9TDI. Due to family expansion I decided to trade in this reliable workhorse for its bigger brother: the Yeti.

My first question is what to look for with second hand Yetis. Are there any common issues that I should be on the outlook for? I got my eyes on two second-hand Yetis:

- 2.0TDI (140hp - manual) AWD from 2009 with 150.000km

- 2.0TDI (110hp - manual) FWD from 2010 with 110.000km

They are equally priced and come with with 3mnd warranty. The first has a more powerful engine and full-options but has more miles, and is slightly older.

Any advice is welcome. Cheers!

Good question! I've always called the Roomster 'the poor man's Yeti' because the Roomster does most things that a Yeti does for less money. Bearing in mind that the Roomster had the front end of a Fabia2 ( and I've had a Fabia2 for three years prior to my Yeti ) the Yeti has a higher front seating position than Fabia.

I wanted flexibility of rear seats but think there may be more cubic capacity BEHIND the front seats in a Roomster so your reason to change may not be accurate - suggest you check this out so you are not disappointed. The spare wheel ( essential IMO) does steal a lot of Yeti boot space.

Having said the above, I don't regret choosing Yeti over Roomster as it suits our (retired) life just fine. It's a 1.2 petrol as we have different priorities to you.

Can you get five pallets in a Roomster?

I went from Roomster to Yeti, I got the Yeti as I wanted a higher seat for entry and exit. The Roomster was a more versatile vehicle for loading the rear, it is basically a van with windows in the continental Fourgonnette style.

My current Roomster is my second but following Skoda's decision to shelve the Roomster II, my next car will probably be a Yeti.

As others have said, make sure the Yeti will suit your expanding family.  The Yeti might be larger than the Roomster on the outside, but it is in many ways smaller on the inside.  The requirement to accommodate 4WD reduces the amount of interior space available in the Yeti.  The floor of the boot is higher in the Yeti than it is in the Roomster and there is less rear seat legroom.  Boot space in the Yeti is reduced even further if you carry a spare wheel, and your centre rear-seat passenger will have to straddle a transmission tunnel.

A Yeti would suit my (now retired) lifestyle just fine - but I, too have different priorities from you.

Thanks! Following your replies I went to the dealer today to have a look at the available space. And indeed, it is not so much different than the Roomster. That being said, I think that both the Roomster and Yeti should suit our needs. The reason for us getting a bigger car is not only space, but also a bit of safety. The Norwegian roads are beautiful but also treacherous with its falling rocks and an occasional moose ;-)

Are there any common technical issues with the Yeti I should be aware of?
