Car search, opinions required

Featured Replies

So after the girl friends car got written off we need to find a used car ASAP. She only has a budget of £4500.

Requirements:

 -Petrol

 - 5 doors (little lads)

 - space for little lad, not sure if this wipes out citigo etc

 - Engine capable of motorway use  - 30miles per day.

 - As low mileage as possible, for the money.

 - Dont want to be strung with timing belt change/ needs 4 tires soon as we have purchased.

 - some Motorway grunt, around 80 - 120 bhp nothing less.

I feel, but correct me if im wrong that something like a citigo or a i10 is too small, and the girlfriend thinks a Focus is to big.

I have suggested a honda jazz 1.4 vetec sport, that was £4200 with 40k, she didnt like it, but doesnt know why lol.... at the end of the day its me who is going to be on the drive in the **** down rain servicing and fixing it... come on lads help me out here.

Sounds like a Fiesta might do.  The car not the Chocolate Frozen Treat.

In what engine, either old 1.4 or the newer 1.25?

Try a Citigo, surprisingly big inside. And fits most of your requirements.

Really for 30 miles on motorway per day, 59 bhp is enough, like when you approaching the motorway and there is a lorry in the slow lane, you plant your foot will the citigo move .... she had a 1.1 clio and hated it on the motorway, for the lack of ability for moving out of the way of either ********s or danger.

Agree, http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=606132430

just an example near me plenty more lower mileage in Lancashire I'm sure.

You can get a 75bhp.

We have 75bhp and used for my commute 100miles a day, no problem.

60bhp are quite nippy aswell.

hmm ok i will get her to Skoda and get her to test drive one, will they let her take it on the motorway?

Don't see why not, just say your going to use it on motorways and fast roads.

Last time getting Swmbo a new car, she found the citigo a nice drive, but way too small and looks unfinished inside with bare painted metal inside the doors and exposed handbrake etc ( i wondered if it had been stripped for racing it was so sparse) .

She liked the i10 a lot more, but again seriously lacking any space.

Sounds like Fiesta, Polo, Fabia, Ibiza are the size of car you need to look at.

Swmbo chose an Ibiza over the i10/citigo. It was slightly cheaper and (her words) "felt like a real car".

Boot size in the citigo is biggest issue. Its pretty small for kiddy hauling..

Power wise, its nit got much in 60 or 75, but it weight bogall so it can, if you need it, get shuffle quicker yhan alot of other small cars.

Fiesta would be my shout though, the 1.25 is pretty okay for it

So is that hubby's or the missus opinion. How does she get on with her Citgo. I guess it's down to the individuals use - young family / school run or  an individual use, work commute and weekend with mates.

She also likes it. We looked at swapping it for something a bit bigger but only things she liked were out if budget

You both have a cracking car in the Citigo, temptation to go bigger will always be there. Enjoy.

Oh we'll go bigger, tbh honest if they did a hybrid fabia thats what she would have.

Update, not sure what i feel about this but she has put down a deposit on a Hyundai 130 1.4 petrol (2011 plate with 42k miles). Her drawn was it was nicer to driver then the Jazz 1.4 vetec (my choice for her) a lot bigger for the lads summer park toys ie footballs, kites, stomp rockets, and picknicks etc, more leg space in the back and plastic backing on the front seats.

She test drove a Citigo, and said it was like a Dacia but smaller, to budget and cheap feeling. For a used car she thought there was better value for her needs.

So there we go, another Car i need to learn how to fix... I personally would have stayed in the Vag Group but lets see how this goes.

Ye the pain will be in my arse alright, when im on my back in the **** down rain on my drive swearing at that Hyundai....

It'll probably be very good.  My neighbours have a slightly older i20 that theyve had from new and its given them v little trouble.

I'm v snobby when it comes to cars but I seriously considered a new Santa Fe Premium/Premium SE this time around as whilst they arent cheap really still seemed like an awful lot of big well equipped car for the money.  Was only the high PCP costs (I do 30k/year) that did for it.  Funny, 20 years ago I looked down on Hyundais like I would a Lada or even Skoda TBF.....my Great Aunt had a metallic Purple Lantra 1.6 auto saloon of the mid 90's generation and I was always so embarrassed of it!  That it was basically a rebodied/rebadged old gen Mitsubishi Lancer meant nothing to me.  But how things change!

I think the new i20 is a really smart little car as well.

Hyundai's styling is very Japanese, think its an Eastern Origami thing :D

That said, im not offended by them, and you can get a lot of car for the money

I'll put up with a Blue HDI 3008 (2017) any day.
