Carista

Featured Replies

Hey guys I'm looking into maybe buying Carista as it's alot cheaper than VCDS and for what I'm going to use it for its perfect for me, I was wondering if anyone has used it with a mk3 monte carlo (15 plate) is it any good for customizing like enabling some features is what I'm mainly after.

I saw the bluetooth adopter on amazon for around £32 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Carista-Bluetooth-OBD2-Adapter-App/dp/B00YVHGTBM) but I was hoping if anyone has had any experience with using it, I ideally would want to use it for the month trail and see if its worth it but not sure if spending the money on it is actually worth it? If anyone has used it or has seen it what is it like and what did you think off it?

Thanks, leprejohn

I used my ELM327 Bluetooth adapter and free Carista software to enable Needle Sweep and Alarm Chirps (Which the dealer couldn't do using VCDS lol)

I could also enable other things such as indicator flashes and door locking (although thats do-able on the HU as well)

Not bad for nothing

Happy bunny :)

I got OBDeleven pro ( https://obdeleven.com/ ) which I think can do almost anything a real VCDS can, and at least a ton more than Carista can. I've done a bunch of modifications (Needle sweep, adjusting hill hold to only work on steeper hills, coming/leaving home to fog lights, front wiper park after ignition off, headlight washer only if stalk is held for over 2.5 seconds, register plate lights dim when boot is open, ...) with it just following the guides for VCDS and they all work.

Requires a bit more involvement to find the required adaptations than Carista thought, but also gives you ability to do backups, which I think is not possible with Carista.

Thanks but I was looking at the free 1 month trail with buying the bluetooth adopter, the only things I really want to do is needle sweep, indicator flashes , auto looking of the doors and maybe the coming home/leaving home is that all possible with the app?

Looking at the link it looks pretty good however I wouldn't even know where to begin to enable the features you have, as I mentioned above is pretty much what I'm looking to do so I'm not sure if spending the 55 euro is worth it

To be fair Carista has come along way in its recent release's with regards to the adaptations for the Fabia - I am on the Beta program so get early access to new functionality (if you want to join then I think you can just email them requesting an invite - That's all I did) and access to use the full functionality of the application.

The other day I was having a play and I now have...

Needle Sweep

Lap Timer

Refuel Quantity

Auto Door Locking

Already had locking alarm chirp (but can be modified via the app)

Already had the coming/going home lights - but they can also be configured (dipped or fogs)

Cornering Lights (Using fogs)

You can also modify intensity of DRLS etc...

And there was much more that could be changed obviously some things depend on your Fabia model and options etc...

I would agree it would be good to do local backups, but you can send Carista a backup of your original config so if something does go wrong they can help you recover.

I just purchased a cheep Wifi ELM327 - Although Caristas might perform better ?!

Anyone managed to get teardrop wipe activated

Not via Carista no, I tried this the other day with their latest release! You could probably get it working via Vagcom

Decided to go with obdeleven as its got all the features that I need

What puts me off obdeleven is there is no list of what It can do

Caristas website  seems to pin point what is achievable and vcds is obviously the daddy

In addition to what carista can do I also need

Led reverse light coding

And tear drop wipe

If it can do them I'm in

Ah, you have just reminded me that "tear drop wipe" is one of the things that I want to do to wife's Polo - though she will never notice if I get it done, but that is not the point!

I think if you have auto rainsensing wipers, then "tear drop wipe" on this VW group platform can be a bit hit or miss, certainly I looked for that option using VCDS but was not convinced that I found it.

First time i have tried using Carista on someone's MK3 Monte Carlo.

Got the Needle Sweep to work, Turned off the ding when the key is left in all working ok.

We tried to turn on the long press button open and close windows but couldn't get them to work. Also couldn't find the option for Autolock is this possible another way?

The Fabia III doesn't have the capability to open and close the windows via the key, and it doesn't have 'automatic' windows either (apart from the driver's window if you have electric rear windows).

Autolock is certainly on the Beta version ... and it even has an option also, to put AutoLock on the MMI (the Setup available through the radio/infotainment), so it can be turned on and off if desired, from the radio.

It can do probably 90% of what VCDS can do. In fact, for your average Joe who just wants to do a bit of adapting and coding, it can do 100% of what VCDS can do. And you follow the same instructions.

What you can try is getting registered for the beta version. This is what i have done. In essence its free and gives full access :).

Have used to do advance diagnostics on many vehicles (also non engine controllers), updates on several VAG vehicle. Sure its not perfect but getting a full license for free, can not ignore that kind of value for money :)

Just been playing with my Carista and switched on needle sweep and locking/unlocking beep.

these are the defaults on my car.

Hi Rooflessdriver,

You don't happen to know what the options on 'Lane-change auto signal auto-flasher count' is?

Other than '3 Flashes'.

Thanks AG Falco

@AGFalco I'll jump in, as I'm here !!

The flash options are only 1, 2 or 3 flashes.  As I recall, the earlier versions offered 4 and 5 flashes as well - however - they didn't work ! So, looks like they just decided to remove those options.

Hi Dithane,

More is what I wanted.:crying:

Thanks for that. AG Falco.

  • 6 months later...

Looks like some of the Beta options have now come through to live version.

i have now configured cornering fog lights which wasn’t available before.

still haven’t worked out how coming home lights work though.

there is also an option to change the dash and infomation startup logo.

(got it to show VRS logo once but not sure what state it needs to be in as never seen again).

Anyone know if it’s possible to have the DRL’s dim when the indicators are on ? Not just the abrupt drop in intensity ?

know its possible with vcds.

I got my carista dongle and app a few days ago and can’t see this option anywhere ?

also the use fogs as coming home / leaving home didn’t work as expected.

I get BOTH low beam and the fogs.

Have put the coming / leaving option back to main beams for now. Waiting for a response from the carista developer.

My car car is a 2018 Fabia Monte Carlo wagon / estate.

All other changes I made worked as expected.

Jaosn.

I’ve had Carista for almost 2 years but never seen an option to dim the DRLs.

interested that you got the coming home lights to work. I’ve tried several times on my 2017 Fabia but hasn’t worked with either fog or low beam.

what option have you chosen for them to come on?

mines on keys out of the ignition.

maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Mine had coming home / leaving home lights as stock. I just want to change them to the fogs instead of the low beams.

Im still waiting for the response from the app developer.

The response I got so far was that they would forward it to the developer to investigate.

And get get back to me.

The other her stuff I did has worked.

Auto lock, beep when locking / unlocking , auto lock on closing the door , refuel qty on dash , needle sweep.

All of these workers as expected.

Only things left left are the DRL dimming (if it’s possible with carista) and the fogs as coming / leaving lights.

Jason.

Ah ok. Mine doesn’t have it as stock so maybe that’s why it doesn’t work.

do you actually have to flash the lights or anything to activate them as stock?

(my old 100HP had to do flash to pass then turn ignition off)

i didn’t have the front fogs as cornering lights so switched that on, needle sweep, beep on lock, DRLs off when parking brake applied.

The coming / leaving lights as set from factory in my car come on when the door is opened.

No extra input required.

I didnt turn on the cornering lights as fogs because here it’s kind of a bit illegal to use fog lights for anything other than poor visibility.

I will probably turn off the DRL’s when parking brake is on though.

Jason.
